Shrove Tuesday is a fine thing. My Swedish pancakes turned out quite yummy, and I managed to find some of the traditional lingonberry jam at the market (pricey stuff, though, ouch) to which I've taken quite a liking.

We had a pancake supper at St. Luke's tonight, which was fun. There was a Mardi Gras theme - I now have shiny beads (which I had to do absolutely nothing to get :P). Silver, copper, gold, and a light metallic purple go really well together. I may use that as a color scheme for something. Shiny...

There was a moment of cruel teasing on tonight's Scrubs, when Dr. Cox and guest star Brendan Fraser came this close *Cas holds up fingers about an inch apart* from snogging. I was all "OMG, are they gonna do what it looks like they're about to do?" and then, nothing. Joke. Fraser's character announces himself still the champion of "gay chicken". Grrr. Don't tease us like that.

Watched episode 10 of Miracles, "Saint Debbie", tonight. Fell even more in love with Alva Keel, if that's possible. Dear lord, that is one sexy, complex Scotsman. *drools a bit* God, I love this show. I'm going to be whining about its unfair cancellation for months.

I've friended quite a few people recently, so hi and welcome *waves to [livejournal.com profile] alvafan, [livejournal.com profile] chazzbanner, [livejournal.com profile] deborak, [livejournal.com profile] icepixie, and [livejournal.com profile] schiarire*

Ooh, your Swedish pancakes sound divine :D I'm glad you guys had a fun pancake supper...after reading this entry, I can think of nothing more I want right now than a pancake ;)

Drat, I managed to miss Scrubs tonight, and it sounds like I missed a good episode! I'm glad I didn't miss them snogging, but I'm sad that you didn't get to see it...I'd really be kicking myself right now if I'd missed it, though. Such a great show! :D

Hee. Everyone keeps accusing me of making them hungry :)

It really was a good episode. Funny, yet very sad and poignant. The end about killed me. I missed this show! So glad I'm watching again :)

Hallooo! Mmpancakes. Er. Well. I had Ramen Tuesday instead but it's at least in the same food group...

Ramen? Hm, would you believe I've never actually had Ramen noodles? It always seemed easier to make my own "real" pasta.

Icon!

Ramen is...well...it varies a lot. If "real" pasta works for you then that's good. I like both personally.

Hee. The pic is from the funny little webcomic Nice Hair (http://www.yinepu.net/nicehairindex.html). Tim Burton (the dude in the icon), Neil Gaiman, and others in comic form. Too funny. And I've always loved the hawk/handsaw Shakespeare quote.

So it's actually good? I'd heard so many bad things about it I'd never tried it. It's cheap, though, so that's gotta count for something :)

I read Nice Hair. :)

It really depends-Instant Ramen or Cup O' Noodles or whatever can be bad but ramen that cooks more or less like pasta is better. I like Maruchan but there are a lot of brands. And generally what you get at a restaurant will be even better, and so on.

Hm, may have to give it a try someday, then. Just to have the experience :)

Ooh, lingonberry jam. I've always thought that sounded tasty. And I'm glad to hear that the pancakes were a success! Any celebration requiring a particular food gets bonus points from me. *g*

I watched Scrubs for the first time ever tonight- it's on a Canadian channel I don't really get well, so the eyestrain necessary to make out what's going on has never made it seem very tempting. But Dr. Cox was on Craig Kilborn last night and they showed the "gay chicken" clip, so I had to watch (it helps that I have a weakness for Brendan Fraser). And I am so glad I did. What a hysterical show! Is it always so goofy? And yet parts of it were really touching (I didn't see the end coming, sniff sniff). I really wish they'd kissed, though. Buncha teases. Hmph.

Hee hee hee... yep. Just yep. Alva has hooked me but good, and "Saint Debbie" is a most interesting episode for him. Layers on layers (mysterious, sexy layers). And I wonder how the slash-blind would see it. Would the episode simply not exist? Heh.

I've grown rather fond of the lingonberries. They're very different from any other berry I've ever had, with quite a distinctive smell to them. And I agree, we need to have more celebrations starring specific foods.

I watched Scrubs for the first time ever tonight

Cool! I'm glad you liked it. Yes, it's always that goofy :) The little "fantasy" scenes especially, and JD does the cute narrations (except for one ep Dr Cox got to narrate, which rocked). The end nearly killed me, too, as I had no idea that character had died. I feel kinda out of the loop on this show now. JD and Dr Cox were always my pet slash pairing, though. They're rather cute together(loved the touching at the end!).

And I wonder how the slash-blind would see it. Would the episode simply not exist? Heh.

Perhaps the tiny bit of het in that ep would distract them *g* But yes, so much to interpret! Especially the dream, in which Alva is so obviously worried about the possibility that Paul might leave him.

I wanted to smack Paul for putting on that little show, "killing" Evie in front of Alva like that with no warning. He seemed too gleeful about something that, to me, would be a terribly cruel thing to do to a friend.

Just... the singing mole. Every time it popped up (ew!), I was torn between revulsion and hysterical giggles. Any show that can come up with something that deranged and balance it with the sweet, sad Dr. Cox and Ben plot could win me over pretty quickly, darn my poor reception.

Perhaps the tiny bit of het in that ep would distract them *g*

Heh, oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. Oops! I did like Debbie, even if she lied to everyone. Poor girl, though, so obviously (heh) something for Alva to grasp in his fear that soon Paul will be gone. Aw. And I'm so with you on the smacking Paul impulse. Okay, Alva is stubborn, and it would have been a struggle to get him to listen, but that was just mean for Paul to stand there grinning while Alva clutches his chest. Gah, men! *g*

Ew, yeah. That singing mole was weird. Especially as it was sort of made in that Muppet style, or like Pacman *g* JD's fantasies are usually that deranged or even more so. Dr Cox I just love, b/c he's so snarky and cynical, but such a marshmallow underneath. And he's slashy with JD, so hey :)

Poor girl, though, so obviously (heh) something for Alva to grasp in his fear that soon Paul will be gone.

Hm, interesting thought. I can totally see where Alva would latch onto someone else b/c he's afraid Paul won't be there much longer. Or maybe a desperate effort to believe in the case, any case, b/c he usually doesn't and maybe if he does this time Paul will like it. But of course that backfires and they fight about boxes...*sigh* Poor Alva. Mean Paul.

Hee! Oh, perfect description. Repulsive, since Pacman brings to mind a mole that, er, runs around trying to eat things (oh god that's vile imagery, I'll stop). But apt.

Or maybe a desperate effort to believe in the case, any case, b/c he usually doesn't and maybe if he does this time Paul will like it.

Ah ha, I like that possibility. I didn't even think of it, so distracted was I by jealous!Paul and the subtle territory marking between Alva and Poppi at the beginning. But it certainly fits, since Alva knows Paul wants to believe, and that he's burned out on disappointment before. Mulder and Scully each did that a couple of times back in the day (I keep bringing up X-Files as a comparison, tsk, so lazy)- after some trauma, Mulder would try to be skeptical for Scully or vice versa. It never went well or lasted long, but the thought was kind of sweet, like when your cats bring you dead things. I could definitely see Alva, with his dubious social skills, trying that to keep Paul with him. Aw. I just want to give him a hug.

(first time using this icon, yay! *g*)

A man-eating mole, eep! Sounds like a mutant from a bad b-movie.

Ah ha, I like that possibility. I didn't even think of it, so distracted was I by jealous!Paul and the subtle territory marking between Alva and Poppi at the beginning.

Oooh yes, that was nice. They were both so obviously staking their claims, with Paul in the background being all "Geez, they're fighting over me. Such masochists. More coffee, anyone?"

but the thought was kind of sweet, like when your cats bring you dead things.

Hee! With their social skills, any gestures they might make could be scarily similar *g* I can only imagine what sort of courting/mating rituals they might come up with...

I made plain ol' Bisquick pancakes - my mom always made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday - and I thought of you and hoped your Swedish pancakes came out well! Other than that, my big Mardi Gras excitement was putting a cool Webshots Mardi Gras wallpaper on the computer. Shiny!

Scrubs

That was a great episode. I was saddened by the end. I loved the character of Ben. He was so fun and crazy. I was both surprised and not surprised by the ending. When JD got the code I wondered if it was Ben, but then we kept seeing Ben there, but he wasn't snapping pictures like he usually does--- and in the comment he had made earlier-- he had said he's be taking pictures until the day he died. I watched the episode again, and you can see that it is only Dr Cox that can see or talks to Ben.

The gay chicken was too funny, and puppeting Elliot was hysterical.

Oh, I know, the end nearly killed me. Since I haven't seen much of this season, I wasn't expecting it at all. Looking back I could see how only Dr Cox was interacting with Ben, but I didn't catch the camera thing. That's so very cool.

Hee. The puppeting thing was awesome. Elliot is such a spaz, and Fraser mimicked her so brilliantly.

Well Ben hadn't been on the show for about 2 seasons. They had him as a sweeps guest around 2 years ago--- hence Dr Cox's comments about him having leukemia and then disappearing for 2 years. So his appearance and death were kinda unexpected--- though it now makes me remember the earlier episodes he was on when JD was hoping that the tests were wrong and Ben didn't have leukemia.

Since I had taped it so I could do the Chatterly thing, I had the ability to go back and see how it was only Dr Cox reacting to Ben.

It's a cute, fun show. I've watched it since the beginning, and enjoyed it on Thursday nights with a couple of my other favorites. I think people either love or hate the show, since most people I know are one extreme or the other.

The worst part is now Brenden Fraser and the character of Ben won't be back... just like we won't be seeing JD's father unless they recast the roll.

Wow, I didn't realize he hadn't been back on the show. I remember his first guest episode, which I rather liked. I wish they'd release this show on DVD so I could go back and catch up.

Who was it that played JD's father before? I know it was a big name that I know, but my mind is blank right now...

John Ritter played JD's dad. Tom Cavenaugh from Ed played his older brother.

Enjoy seems like too weak a word to use for this series. They're amazingly good, and I've fallen so hard for these characters. [livejournal.com profile] ealgylden and I will probably be discussing these things for some time to come. We'd love your input, so feel free to jump in!
