Well Ben hadn't been on the show for about 2 seasons. They had him as a sweeps guest around 2 years ago--- hence Dr Cox's comments about him having leukemia and then disappearing for 2 years. So his appearance and death were kinda unexpected--- though it now makes me remember the earlier episodes he was on when JD was hoping that the tests were wrong and Ben didn't have leukemia.
Since I had taped it so I could do the Chatterly thing, I had the ability to go back and see how it was only Dr Cox reacting to Ben.
It's a cute, fun show. I've watched it since the beginning, and enjoyed it on Thursday nights with a couple of my other favorites. I think people either love or hate the show, since most people I know are one extreme or the other.
The worst part is now Brenden Fraser and the character of Ben won't be back... just like we won't be seeing JD's father unless they recast the roll.
