Got a late Christmas present today in the form of the 1st season of Invisible Man on DVD, which I won off eBay for only 8 pounds. It's region 2, so I'm watching it on Christina's dvd player; it's also from the Netherlands, so the Dutch packaging and subtitles amuse me greatly. Can't tell you how thrilled I am to have this show on dvd finally. The quality is fantastic, and the set has all 22 episodes from season one, compared to the UK version where you have to buy a two-part set.
Really, everyone needs to see this show. The love! Darien and his pants of extreme dorkiness, the hair, the SHORTS! Come now, how many primetime male tv characters have been seen wearing shorts in the past few decades? They just don't do shorts anymore, but Darien shows up in them all the time. There's the wonder that is BobbyHobbes, who cannot be encapsulated in a few mere words, but must be experienced, loved, revered. You should read
sisabet's treatise on bobbyhobbes
here, then read the other parts to the photo review, then go see the series. Seriously, these two are brilliant. They banter, they argue, they touch a hell of a lot, they
casually discuss whether or not Bert and Ernie were actually gay. They refer to themselves as Starsky and Hutch. There are uses of the L-word (the love word, that is, not the lesbian word like in that other show). They're practically married.
There is also an unwritten rule in IMan fandom - you must respect the Eberts. You must love the Eberts.
If there's anything I love in a show, it's a misfit family. Darien, bobbyhobbes, Claire, the Official and Eberts are a marvelously quirky misfit family. And the gland, too, of course.
*watches more, impatiently waiting for "Flowers for Hobbes"*
I'll have more Yuletide recs soon, but in the meantime, a meme gacked from
lornelover. Panorama of my flist, in icon format.
( Cut to save bandwidth, 'cos this is a hell of a lot of icons )Oh yes, I've been meaning to thank everyone who sent Christmas cards. So far I've received cards from
deborak,
writerlibrarian,
artifuss,
cteare, and
daegaer (complete with the usual brilliant bit of fic, thanks!). My mother also tells me a few things have arrived for me at home in the US as well. Thanks to all of you for brightening my holiday.
