Barbossa/Apples is my new OTP. Thus, iconage.

To go with the new icon, a lovely PotC quiz, gakked from [livejournal.com profile] ealgylden...

Barbossa's Apple Fetish
You are....

Barbossa's apple fetish. You reeeeallly like
apples, and who can blame you?? I mean,
seriously, ten years, thinking about one fruit.
Well, it's either dedication or insanity. You
get all tingly, thinking about apples, doncha?
They sure are good, man, I wish I had one right
now.... We'll be hopin' for the best.

Which Pirates of the Caribbean Character's Unhealthy Fetish are YOU?
brought to you by Quizilla

The fact that this is a quiz result makes me very happy.

Spent the evening with the Farlows, and will probably be over there again tomorrow to help with their trial-run with the ice cream maker (in prep. for Sunday's ice cream social at St. Luke's). Courtesy of Sandy, I also have a possible job prospect - substitute teaching. I might have to have a second job a few evenings out of the week in order to make enough $$, but at least this would let me use my brain. We'll see.

Having problems deciding on a recipe for the duck mum and I will be experimenting with on Saturday. There's a nice-sounding one here that uses a burgandy sauce, and one here with consommé and sherry (although I'd leave out the orange bits, never liked orange in my meat). Or, if those are too complicated, there's a much simpler one here. Any thoughts from you?

Random thought - LJ seems to make one lose the ability to write with personal pronouns. Must correct this.

Cool icon. :)

Congratulations on the job prospect. That's great. What grades would you be doing?

Keep in mind that this is coming from an awful cook, but might it be better to start with the most simple recipe? Then you can just concentrate on getting the duck right, and can experiment another time. Just a thought.

Know what you mean about LJ stealing personal pronouns. ;) It's worlds better than some AIM-speak, however.

Well, I think I'm going to sign up for middle school and high school. Not sure I could handle them any younger *g*

Good point about the simple recipe. I asked my mum, and she assured me that there wasn't a huge difference between the basic recipe and the ones that add a basting step, so together we decided on the consommé and sherry recipe. She suggested rice for a side dish (plus the potatoes, apple, and onion that go inside during cooking), and I think I'm going to roast some yams and make a salad. Fresh bread would be good, too, I think.

Oh yes, and chat speak too. It's amazing how lazy our typed speech (if that makes sense) can get if we let it.

Yeah, elementary school would be hard if you actually want to teach rather than babysit. Middle school and high school sound good.

You made my mouth water with the description of your meal. Sounds delicious!

Oh, definitely! I don't think I'd have enough patience for the little ones. The teenagers are hard enough :)

Let's just hope it turns out as well as it sounds :) Thanks!

Heh. Yeah, no kidding. LJ has had an interesting effect on my writing, since the writing in my posts tends to be quite close to my speech patterns, which means a mix of formal and very casual registers, lots of pauses (all those damn ellipses and dashes I use), many many many tangents and parenthetical phrases, and yeah, not that many pronouns. I bet it's a pain for others to read sometimes, but I can't really tell, since after all, that's the way I think and talk. Hopefully these bad habits won't get too ingrained- that would be bad for my more formal, scholarly writing, and how would I explain it? "Oh, well, I got lazy thanks to my addiction to blathering online about my geekish enthusiasms." Erm.

For my birthday this year, I made this Seared Duck Breast with Chili, Honey and Ginger Glaze (http://www.epicurious.com/run/recipe/view?id=102303&action=filtersearch&filter=recipe-filter.hts&collection=Recipes&ResultTemplate=recipe-results.hts&queryType=and&keyword=seared+duck+breast), and I added a slightly sweet-tart-spicy cherry sauce from another yummy-souding duck recipe in the June issue of Cooking Light, which annoyingly isn't on their website (though I can email it or post it if you'd like). It was really good- not too spicy, not too sweet, but well-rounded and warmly fruity. Really yummy, and not hard to make.

I'm not a big fan of orange-flavors on meat either. Or orange and chocolate. Just not for me.

Well, it makes sense to me to read, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing ;) I tend to use that strange combination of formal and casual (with a bit of Bertie Wooster-speak thrown in), as well.

Thanks for the recipe! Sounds yummy, especially the port and ginger bits. I'll add it to my bookmarks and try it out if I ever find a way to get just the duck breasts and not the whole duck (we are so deprived of meats other than beef, turkey, chicken, and pork where I live).

I so love your new icon!! :D:D:D

Tee hee, I'll have to find out what fetish I am.

Substitute teaching could be fun, good luck figuring that out :)

Hmm, all three sound good, although I might go with the second one (I agree, without the orange bits), as it just sounds mouth watering...Good luck!

Haha, my personal pronoun use has become sorely lacking ever since I started using lj...

Thank you! I've had lots of fun making icons for this movie.

Thanks for the good luck on both counts. We've decided to go with the second recipe, sans orange. I've got my fingers crossed :)

Oh, to be a fly on the wall. :P

Heck leepshin, if I knew you were interested in grappling with the kiddies I could have told you how to go about it months ago. I just got my yearly "Are you still subbing?" notification, in fact. I won't be, obviously, but no doubt I'll still be getting phone calls at five in the morning.

You'll have to share some tips with me, since I have no idea what I'm doing and am not entirely sure what to expect.

Quack quack? Silly :)

Aw, I'm a little behind and read the spoiler regarding the dinner and its success already, so: yay for the dinner's success!

And, yay, again for the teaching prospect. I think that is such a dashed wonderful idea; I really have my fingers crossed for you that it will work out. :)

LJ has completely ruined any adherence to proper writing I may have possessed previously. It's a terrible site like that and reading from you post and all the comments regarding it, it seems this is a fate so many of us LJers suffer.

PS Cute icon. :)

Thank you! Success is good :)

I hope so, too. It'll be great experience.

At least my grammar is ok, if lacking in pronouns *g* This is the perfect place to use Wooster-ish language, though, so that balances out.

Eh, pronouns are overrated. Grammar is far more important, I feel. I'd much sooner cringe at "I did good yesterday" than "did well yesterday." And, right-ho, about the Wooster language, where else can you get away with all those dasheds, rummys and what's-it's without being frowned upon?
