Sci-Fi Friday!

Warning for huge-ass spoilers and squeeing.
My Vala love continues strong. Their little goodbye scene was perfect in every way, from her final attempt to steal something to Daniel's totally expecting it and busting her. The way she brushed at his beard was hot, too.
The bracelets continue to be a lovely plot device, the most handy MacGuffin ever, but they keep Vala around so I love them.
"Walter! Don't make me promote you." Heh. Points for the funny, minus points for foisting all the general work off on a poor sergeant.
Poor Dr Lee. Everyone just abuses and/or ignores him in his scene.
Vala in pigtails! So much love.
The leather outfits broke me. Really. Add in the comments about "undercover rawhide" plus a bonus mentioned of hauling ass and dude, adding Vizzini to the mix couldn't even make that scene any gayer. But still, Vizzini! S9 = the season of the most awesome guest stars ever.
His little rambling about his and Vala's "carnal times" was ew-inspiring, though. Daniel looked disgusted and I think Mitchell was close to tossing his cookies.
Speaking of guest-stars, what's up with having a major from the Pentagon and it's NOT Major Davis? Was Colin busy, dammit? Sure, it was a small scene, but he could have gone to DC with them, too. That would have been fun. I liked the major chick, but still, want Paul.
The faces Vala was making behind Vizzini's back killed me. Claudia has about as expressive a face as Shanks, which is saying something.
This ep really is a cosmic scavenger hunt. Sure, it's a filler ep, but who cares? Stargate hasn't been this much fun in ages.
Monks! And Vala posing as a nun? *is so dead by this point* And he's a FAKE monk, an ex-smuggler to boot. I didn't see that coming at all. Can we see more of this guy in the future? He's great.
Um...as funny as it was, Daniel and Mitchell aren't allowed to speak in unison anymore. That's a J/D thing, k boys? Thnx.
Those aliens again! Plenty of cool continuity from Prometheus Unbound, and I always enjoy seeing aliens who look like aliens.
If I were them? I'd have sedated Vala and just carted her to DC that way.
*dies* First Vala smacks Daniel on the ass with the magazine, then she winks at the female guard. I love my gay shows.
And she broke his glasses! Seriously, I'd watch an entire season of nothing but these two bouncing off one another. But I can't join the squee of shipping them, I'm afraid. They're so much fun the way they are, and sleeping together would just ruin the tension. And honestly, Shanks is playing such a complete lack of temptation on Daniel's part at all and it's such an amusing choice. Please, let's not mess with their dynamic, b/c I love it the way it is.
He certainly didn't seem tempted when she showed up in his bedroom, which, considering the way she was dressed, either means he has amazing self-control and personal values or has taken vows of celibacy. Just enough seriousness in the scene to work, I think. "If you've actually been through any of that, are you messin' with me?? Get out!" Hee. Perfect. Though I have to wonder if that was about an accurate account of her past as we're going to get. Was almost expecting Sha're to come up during all that, but I can see why it wouldn't.
"The program doesn't exist that would satisfy your curiosity, Doctor." Ok, this senator kind of has Daniel's number.
Aw, how nice of Teal'c to come and help when Daniel calls. And of course he takes time out to tease Mitchell about it. Keep playing hard to get, Teal'c!
So Cam is a canon nickname now? Mm, k. And it amuses me that Cameron Mitchell is evidently the name of an old western star, and here is Mitchell standing in very western attire.
I really want to know what that Jaffa wants with the power coil. The curiosity, it burns.
And of COURSE he doesn't know how to sever the link. Heh, love it. Guess it really will wear off on its own, b/c only in fic is sex required for these things.
So they're appointing someone as pretty much civilian head of the SGC? And that's...who, exactly? Are they giving Daniel this job or will we be getting someone new?
Aw, Daniel/Teal'c hug! First one ever, if I recall. Damn them for not giving us a close-up of that.
And now, boykissing!!
Beckett offworld! And snarking with Rodney, too. Love the new offworld uniforms for the scientists. Much better than the khacki ones.
Girls poker night? Ooh, tell us more.
So far I like Cadman. She pokes fun at the boys and is good at her job. I notice she also pushes Carson out of the way of the beam, too. Hm.
Heh, they really poured the dirt on PM for this scene. It's a good look for him. *g*
Aw, Zelenka's first time offworld! He's so cute and jumpy. Still needs a haircut, though.
Rodney got another haircut, though, I think. It looks good, particularly the sideburns.
Did Zelenka just sing? In Czech? I love this international cast of scientists. *g*
I don't mind the voiceover so much, really. I can't see any other way to do it that would still let the actress give her own performance, so yeah, I'm fine with it.
"I'm not crazy, I just have another consciousness in my brain." Good delivery. *snickers*
Dr Fumbles McStupid! Hee. Poor Zelenka.
Aw. Rodney really is horribly awkward around women. Though I'm disappointed that the botanist is so...flat. We finally get a redhead on this show and this is what they give us? No personality at all, especially compared with Cadman.
The first time Rodney speaks as Cadman was a bit stiff and odd, but he settles into it very quickly.
Poor Shep. His toys really do suck compared to Ronon's.
Way to go, Zelenka, for standing up to Rodney! Heh, my little brother was watching this scene with me and his first comment was "Huh. Tough love." *grins*
Random thought - that night shot of the city is just gorgeous.
"No, you're cool; I'm fine." Heh. So is Shep going to feel guilty about every little decision?
Oh. Em. Gee. Rodney's wall of certificates, plus photo of him holding a cerificate, kills me. Can anyone tell what that top picture is? The one with writing on it? I'm squinting at it but can't for the life of me figure out what that is.
Ok, I know a lot of people are snarking about the feminine mannerisms DH uses when he's playing Cadman, but going back and watching her move, he's imitating her pretty well.
Carson's face throughout the entire scene in the lab just kills me. He must be used to Rodney popping in at all hours, and though he sports a confused look on his face through most of the conversation, he never catches on even with the gratuitious touching. She really does take every advantage to touch. *g*
Cadman is a marine, yet is used to sleeping in the buff? Mmmm, ok.
I must say, I'm very glad that Ronon didn't get the better of Teyla without taking advantage of her distraction and fighting dirty. Not a very courteous sparring partner.
Cyrano reference! Awesome, Rodney.
Can I have Rachel's flexibility? I'll take her physique, too, while I'm at it.
I'll give points to Botany Girl for not freaking out when Carson shows up almost uninvited. Though really, she still has no personality. Ouch.
It's prompted and a bit stilted, but Rodney's little toast was all him and was actually pretty sweet. His date clothes are rather nice, too. As are Carson's. Nice but casual.
And we have the first of two gay kisses in this ep. B/c hey, even though it's Rodney's body, that's Cadman kissing Dr Katie. I was wondering if we'd get the B/M kiss during that scene, since the bit where Rodney puts a hand to Carson's face was shown during the recent lowdown, but they just like to tease us. The little growl, though? Hot.
Watching Rodney fight with himself/his own body was great. DH did such a good job with this. *fangirls the man and his acting skills like whoa*
Ew, charred mice.
The editing is kinda cribbed from PJ's Gollum/Smeagol scenes, but hey, it works and we've always known these producers aren't above copying from the big movies. It's pretty easy to tell who's speaking from how fast DH talks ;P
Ouch. That seizure looked painful. Rodney's poor brain has been through a lot lately.
*dies* And now the best part. The kiss. Frankly, it was just as good as I was hoping it would be. We didn't get any tongue, unfortunately, but hey, it's not like the network would have allowed that. But we did get a nice, rather forceful kiss, and no one except Sheppard looked disgusted. Carson was just shocked as usual, and Rodney's face and posture screamed "omg, how much more humiliation can I take today...". Perfect. So, yeah, happy. I got my Beckett/McKay kiss and there was no making fun of it or anyone acting all "omg, ew, what have I done" about it. Good job, PDL!
Re Cadman, does anyone else think the actress looked a bit odd at the end, with all that blonde hair? From her facial features and coloring, I was expecting a brunette. The blonde hair made her look all...washed out, or something. Dunno, maybe it was just me. I like Cadman, but I'm not sure I want them trying to set her up with Carson. It doesn't sound like she'll be a recurring character, anyway.
Tigh, you're gonna have to stop being in charge soon. B/c accusing my tv boyfriend of being a Cylon and then smacking him around? After he's just survived all that? Oh no you don't.
I thought the blood dripping thing was cheesy until later. Then the symmetry broke me, even if it was still a bit cheesy. I'm so easy when it comes to this show.
*sad for original OTP* Boomer/Tyrol is so broken. Their scenes are so painful, but I love them anyway.
Heh. Gotta love a show with its own curse words, if only b/c it gives us stuff like "Frakking A..."
Starbuck's longer hair this season makes me sad. I loved the shorter cut she sported at first. I suppose she doesn't exactly have much time for haircuts these days, but still.
I love Cally, and I know she's been through a lot and is upset, but oy. She tried to play Baltar and got played instead.
Poor Gaeta. Having to try and deal with a commander like Tigh. It's not like the Galactica can survive on its own for too long without fuel and food and other supplies.
I like that Apollo is still respected and well-liked by his pilots. Really, Tigh has a tenuous hold on the Galactica. The pilots are with Apollo, various members of the military are with Roslin, and the rest are just praying Adama wakes up soon.
I really don't think Ellen Tigh is a Cylon. Her manipulations are far too human, IMO.
This new Anders guy is interesting, and I'm sure it's no coincidence that he resembles Jamie Bamber more than a little bit. I love that they not only kept the Pyramid game, but that they actually made it cool. No shiny bloomers this time round ;)
The boarding party turned tragedy was horribly and wonderfully realistic. Tigh should have known it would come to that. I feel sorry for the young pilot who got put in charge of that.
Dude, when Apollo told Roslin he had an idea about where to go but she wouldn't like it, I KNEW he was talking about Zarek. It's perfect and ripe for tension and I love it.
The whole Tigh/Ellen dynamic is something you don't see too often on tv. God, she hits him and he finds it the hottest thing ever. Tigh is such a sub, I swear.
I will admit to being on edge through the entire scene in the cell. Baltar, you little bastard. Don't scare me like that right after we almost lost Tyrol last week. It proves fear and panic can force a Cylon to come up with previously unknown information, but dude, that scared the crap out of me.
Nicely executed escape plan. Dee was fantastic as usual, and I was proud of Gaeta for covering for her at the last minute.
Props to Roslin for calmly pushing aside the gun and walking away.
Not sure how I feel about Billy declining to leave. He's got some good points about what consequences might befall them, and I admire him for having that line he won't cross. Of course, this also keeps him closer to Dee, so I'm happy about that. *g* I wonder what he'll find on the Galactica to do, without a president to assist.
We all knew Tigh couldn't shoot Apollo down. He'd never be able to face Adama again.
Yup, they've managed to make that dorky game hot. Kara's got some moves, too. She and Anders will certainly be sexing by the next ep or so.
Not surprised they were going to use Boomer as a lab rat, but I'm glad Tyrol was suitably horrified by the idea.
Yay for awake!Adama! I was expecting him to yell at Tigh a bit, but wow, he barely batted an eye, just vowed to help fix everything. Side by side. Nice. Of course, he won't be quite so happy when he hears about Lee.
Saw Boomer's shooting coming, but it still killed me. Geez, Cally, you think the Chief is going to thank you for that? God, he looked so broken, and his panicked litany of "no"s was just...damn, these secondary characters are going to be the death of me. Damn them for killing off my favorite character!
*sigh* At least we have a spare.
Is it sad that the Friday line-up is just about the only thing getting me from week to week these days? I'm going to try to last the month of August before quitting at M&M, but I'm quickly being tired out by working so much. I'm just tired all the time, not to mention bruised up and aching. The money is good, but I really don't have time for anything. I'm barely getting the prerequisite reading I need for the course done. I swear, I hate my life right now. Can I just leave for Wales now, please?
My Vala love continues strong. Their little goodbye scene was perfect in every way, from her final attempt to steal something to Daniel's totally expecting it and busting her. The way she brushed at his beard was hot, too.

Date: 2005-08-07 08:19 pm (UTC)You could see the blonde hair under her beret at the beginning of the episode, I think. At any rate, I was expecting her to be blonde at the end...
It proves fear and panic can force a Cylon to come up with previously unknown information, but dude, that scared the crap out of me.
I kind of wonder if she was lying just to save the Chief...it's not like Baltar has any way to check, right? Although the numbers do add up, as we've seen four of the twelve Cylon models, so...

I suppose there's no way to know if she was lying or not. But yeah, the numbers fit pretty well. *curious about all that*

Date: 2005-08-12 10:49 pm (UTC)Finally got to watch Friday's ep of BSG
Date: 2005-08-09 12:07 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure Gaeta is a Cylon, so he's probably not all that concerned. I swear that in the scene where Tigh was yelling at Baltar about the Cylon detector, Gaeta was staring at Baltar's ass, LOL.
I will admit to being on edge through the entire scene in the cell.
I found this ep a little dull until this scene -- they were hitting too many of the same notes over and over (Tigh's incompetent, Apollo's conspiring, Cally's flinging her drama about, Ellen's bitching, Helo's . . . well, being irrelevant as he has for pretty much the whole show).
Nicely executed escape plan. Dee was fantastic as usual, and I was proud of Gaeta for covering for her at the last minute.
cylon *cough*
Props to Roslin for calmly pushing aside the gun and walking away.
Stupid guard. Tactically, you let the party pass and shoot them in the back once they think you're harmless, but that's just me . . .
Not sure how I feel about Billy declining to leave.
I loved that! It was nice to see Roslyn be on the receiving end of Billy's political self preservation. She'd drop him in a heartbeat if it suited her purpose. Can't wait to see Apollo's face when she dumps him.
Yup, they've managed to make that dorky game hot. Kara's got some moves, too. She and Anders will certainly be sexing by the next ep or so.
She also has remarkable healing powers, considering her knee was shattered no too long ago. cylon * cough *
Yay for awake!Adama! I was expecting him to yell at Tigh a bit, but wow, he barely batted an eye, just vowed to help fix everything. Side by side. Nice. Of course, he won't be quite so happy when he hears about Lee.
Seconded. We need to get this story moving along, and the return of Adama is a welcome push.
Re: Finally got to watch Friday's ep of BSG
Date: 2005-08-12 10:56 pm (UTC)*nods* Everyone is pointing the finger at Gaeta these days as the next likely Cylon agent. It would be an interesting choice.
Nicely executed escape plan. Dee was fantastic as usual, and I was proud of Gaeta for covering for her at the last minute.
cylon *cough*
Now, now. Not everyone can be a Cylon ;P But so far they've split up many of the romantic pairings and made one a Cylon and one human, so it's possible either Billy or Dee will be tagged. Hmm...
I loved that! It was nice to see Roslyn be on the receiving end of Billy's political self preservation. She'd drop him in a heartbeat if it suited her purpose. Can't wait to see Apollo's face when she dumps him.
It definitely took her aback, though, and I liked that. He's right, they're going to split the fleet right in two this way.

*baps* I'll give them points for having lingering injuries more so than most series. Lee's had that swollen eye for how many eps now?
Seconded. We need to get this story moving along, and the return of Adama is a welcome push.
We do. As much as I'm loving the character-driven eps we've had, the plot does need a slight shove at this point in the season. And I'm more than ready to get away from Caprica completely.

Date: 2005-08-12 11:01 pm (UTC)I'm certainly very envious of your trip to England, even though I'm going myself soon. The Victory is on the top of my list of things to see. You're right about the low ceilings - it was mostly a space issue, and most men would have had to stoop to walk below decks. Stephen and Jack both bang their heads a few times. *g*
That old "people were shorter back then" thing doesn't really hold up. Average height fluctuated quite a bit throughout history, more of an up-and-down thing than any steady trend. So tell your friends you were right ;)

Well, I imagine most of my time is going to be devoted to my studies. I'll be busy plugging away at my master's courses and doing some research for my thesis. Hopefully I'll have enough spare time to check out a few of the sites, though. So many things to see!

Date: 2005-08-16 05:59 pm (UTC)You will love the Victory. It was one of my favorite things that we did. Unfortunately there is no photography below decks because everything is copyrighted--isn't that crazy?!? And since it's dry-docked, there are only a couple of real cannons (I think 4), (because of the weight); the rest are wooden. What amazed me most was the amount of ropes. I knew there were tons and tons of ropes, but it's so different to see them. I can't imagine how they can actually function without getting tangled!! Anyway, I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely--as well as the rest of your trip. Have a great time!
Oh, one thing on the Victory; the tour is one way--you start at the top and leave from the bottom, so if you want pictures up top, take them first. I didn't realize that and was planning on coming back to spend more time and take photos, etc. We were able to actually go back through with no problem, but it would have been more convenient to just take my pictures at first.
