Mail call.

I love getting mail. It's always accompanied by that "oooh, what'd I get, what'd I get?!" feeling, and possibly bouncing. Sometimes that enthusiasm is dampened by receiving only bills or junk mail, but some days, like this one, there are goodies from friends, thoughtful friends who are wonderfully cool.

Today I got a postcard from [livejournal.com profile] daegaer, from France. Looks beautiful there, my friend, and thanks for sending it!

From [livejournal.com profile] deborak, there was a large box containing "Wooden Ships and Iron Men", a cool naval war game I can't wait to play. You can reenact all sorts of famous naval battles, and looks like a ton of fun. She also threw in cards from which you construct a model pirate ship, the Revenge, from an RPG called Pirates of the Spanish Main. Methinks it is a subtle strategy for getting me hooked on the game ;P

Mania also gave me three gummi squid! I had no idea such wonders existed. Gummi squid! I may eat two of them, and save the third so I may keep it and love it and call it my squishy.

There is much happiness today. Right now I'm eating fresh yummy strawberries, Golden Cheshire cheese (yes, import, hush you errant Debs), and fresh bread from Panera with English Somerdale butter (omg, so good. This butter is amazing and yet imported so I can't justify buying it too often. Still, yum). Also, PG Tips tea, the best tea in the world. Watch me as I revel in my nearly-all-carb meal that's part of my balanced diet.

Oh yes, not-so-gratuitous-IP for new squid icon. Combining ships and squids, how marvelous ;)

*off to work on my resumé so I can apply for those lab jobs*

Don't worry, the fat in the butter and cheese will protect you from the carbs ;)

PG Tips: you are so right.

Lol! Good thing I don't eat too much of them in one sitting, then :P

Tips is the best tea I've ever had, and I've had tons of it. Such a smooth flavor, not bitter at all. I doubt I'll ever drink anything else.

P.S. Totally randomly and out of the blue, a musical colleague asked me today if I wanted all her Deryni books! So I may soon be equipped to slash me some Morgan/Derry once more!

Ooh, cool! Do you think you'll be writing anything? For that matter, have you written anything for them before that I might read?

When you get them, be on the lookout for the scenes b/w Thomas Cardiel and Denis Arilan. Slashiest bishops ever! ;)

I do remember Arilan and Cardiel as having slash potential. Didn't *someone* also engineer it so that Arilan could make it through ordination without being exposed as Deryni?

I only wish I still had any of my old Deryni slash from before slash was officially invented. Sadly, it was on paper and is long gone. I'll just have to write you some fresh. :)

(Meanwhile, where's yours?)

Yes, but considering Thomas didn't know Denis was Deryni until the "coming out" scene in The King's Justice, it couldn't have been him. I'm thinking maybe a supernatural explanation or something.

I'll settle for newly written stuff :) Sadly, I've not written any of my own. I've left that to [livejournal.com profile] tiamatschild. Perhaps one day, though...

There is a story about it somewhere. Yes yes, I remember it well. If by "well" you mean "very vaguely, as from a great distance." I WILL FIND IT YES I WILL.

Anyway IIRC this story I vaguely recall either lets on, or strongly hints, about who it was that got him through. But you are more up on this than I...

Cool! Let me know if you find it.

Oops, my bad. The coming out scene was in High Deryni. I need to read the books again, and in more depth.

Wow IBF, what an exciting life and exotic diet you have.

LMAO at: I may eat two of them, and save the third so I may keep it and love it and call it my squishy. And you wonder why we tease you about the squid. :)

Good luck with the resume. Make sure you highlight your science classes.

I do try ;)

I haven't the foggiest notion. I think you guys are just mean :P

Good luck with the resume. Make sure you highlight your science classes.

Thanks! And don't worry, my biology degree will be at the top of the list.

Hmm, I forget the specific website. I do a Google image search for "squid" from time to time, and it popped up there. It's an old engraving, so it's probably lots of places. Glad it amuses you :)

*g* I was just curious how you came across it. And you know, having eaten squid before, and recalling the length of time each bite required me to chew, gummy squid makes perfect sense to me. lol

Lol. True, the stretchy sensation is probably similar *g*

Never had squid, and I'm not sure I'd want to eat squid now. They're too cute to eat.

And those gummy squid are imported, too (from China!). Glad you liked them. I have access to a candy store that has many other frightening items like those.

Are they really? Imported? Now I love them even more *g* I ate one, and they're really quite tasty. That sounds like an awesome candy store.

Btw, what form of money did we decide on? I can't remember if I said I was gonna send you a money order or a check or what.

Ok, will do. Let's see, shipping was $8, and $15 for the game, so I'll send a check for $23 asap.

Hope you're enjoying visiting with your family!
