No more kids, huzzah.

Well, today was my last day of work, with the kids there at least. I'll have to go Thursday for a teacher work day, but other than that, I'm done. The last two days have been hell on earth, but I'm going to let it go and not rant and rave about what can't be changed. Suffice it to say we assistants got taken advantage of, majorly.
I think I'm going to go by the staffing agencies this week and see what sorts of jobs they have for someone with my strange talents.
My family of course picked up RotK today, so I've been watching extras and such and squeeing over them. We get quite a few glimpses of scenes from the extended edition (omg, can't wait) and more lovely behind-the-scenes footage and interviews. I'm amazed at how much these movies (and books) can still affect me, how much they tug at my gut and my heart. I've fallen irrevocably in love with them, the cast, and nearly every aspect of them.
One question about the music: In the ads for RotK that have been playing on tv lately, there's this music at the end, a sort of dramatic, punctuated bit that culminates in Sam's shout of "No!!'. They used it in some of the extras on the DVD, too. However, I don't recognize it. It's not on any of the soundtracks, and although another viewing is probably in order to make sure, I don't remember it being in the movie either. So, what's it from? Did Howard Shore compose it and it was just never used until now? I wanna know, b/c I rather like it.
Was quite proud of myself over the weekend, as the trifle I made for a luncheon at church turned out rather well. I used a great recipe from my Lobscouse and Spotted Dog Aubrey/Maturin book. Naples biscuits soaked in sherry, raspberry jam, slivered almonds, strawberries, custard, and a whipped topping made of heavy cream, sherry, and a bit of lemon juice. I even garnished this time, with some of the strawberries and almonds. It's quite gratifying to make a dessert that's well received enough to leave nothing to be brought home.

Date: 2004-05-26 02:33 pm (UTC)Sounds wonderful! I've never made anything from Lobscouse though I have it. Not sure I'll try Spotted Dick though, or.. Drowned Baby? Do they have Drowned Baby? LOL
On my LJ posted a meme about the 'sweetheart' names of certain members of the medical profession. Do you agree with me that they're backwards? :-)
