Contained in the cut are massive spoilers for the Everwood season finale, a small rant, and a fair amount of squeeing.

I've worried over this episode all week, hoping for some resolution to troubling issues, and hoping against all hope that they wouldn't screw anything up. I was...mostly pleased.
I must admit I've gotten to the point where I'm so irritated with both Ephram and Amy that I don't much care how they end up. The selfishness of "throw away your dreams and stay here" from Amy irritated me, as did Ephram's comment that a summer romance would likely be "perfect" b/w them. Uh, yeah. With your level of maturity? I'm sure.
So, Madison's pregnant. And I'm so very angry with Andy for the way he's handling it I'd like to smack the man. It's not quite "Ephram has so much to look forward to, let's not screw up his career by making him face responsibility", but it's pretty close. Using his mother's death as an excuse? Lame. Saying it's not Ephram or Madison's fault? Wrong in the extreme. They made a decision, and now they should both have to deal with it. Andy taking care of it *for* Ephram, paying for all his mistakes, isn't the way to teach E how to be a responsible adult. Instead, Andy will deal with the financial aspects, and Madison will be left with the actual work, and the emotional repercussions, while Ephram is none the wiser. Great plan, Andy. I know guilt is a big motivator for you, but in this case it's not helping.
Ok, as much as I hated the above C-plot (which didn't actually get a lot of screen time and could've been left out, I thought), the most important bits revolved around, of course, Harold. I didn't see the bagel shop (excuse me, 'shoppe') thing coming, but I can see how Harold would try to do something, anything, to make a financial contribution to the family again. I'm rather surprised that the people of Everwood wouldn't know what bagels are, though. It was hard seeing Harold fail at this, but in the long run, I'm glad, b/c it's set up the best possible situation...
Omg, then comes the best Andy/Harold scene ever. There was banter, there was forgiveness (of a sort), there were confessions of affection (he said he missed him! So much love), followed by a serious conversation, bonding, and a proposal. True to tv form, the actual reconciliation is quick, but I'm so happy to have these two friends again that I can look past it. I loved every bit of the banter, bad puns included, and I loved how Harold can switch to concerned friend so quickly when Andy is upset (and he called him Andy again! huzzah!). Their serious conversations rock.
To top even that, we get another scene which trumps the one before it - Harold accepts! Of course he has to state his terms first, all very reasonable, and the last one - equal partnership. Those two words may just be a bulletproof kink of mine, and I squeed so loudly upon hearing it that I scared the cat. Loved Andy's "Wanna shake on it? Hug?", and even though we didn't get a hug (blast), this state of affairs pleases me greatly. Partners! I do so love that term.
T'was very interesting to see how Andy's dream finally played out, and I wasn't at all surprised. He might try to delude himself into thinking that if Julia had lived, everything would have turned out fine and dandy, but it's just that, a delusion. The dream shows us, quite accurately I think, just how much things would have stayed the same, with Andy no closer to his family than before. I just hope Andy can finally come to terms with that (and stop having dreams, b/c frankly, Andy w/o a beard scares me).
Bright didn't have too many scenes, but they were brilliant as usual. Loved, loved, loved that last bit, where he and Delia are left at the bus stop, quite bereft without Ephram, and then go off to see a movie together. Adorable. I'd missed the Bright/Delia interaction.
Not at all interested in what Ephram and Amy get up to in NYC over the summer. I wonder where next season will pick up - where we left off, or after they're both back in Everwood. I rather hope it's the former, so we can see the beginnings of the Abbott/Brown partnership :)
In work-related news, this afternoon was a bit of an adventure. I went to relay a message to the behaviour class next door and got roped into helping them catch the finch which had escaped from its cage. It ended up in *my* classroom (our rooms are one big one, just divided with some cabinets), where I had to climb the shelving to reach it.
The quickest way to impress a bunch of resource kids? Catch their tiny pet bird with your bare hands. It took several tries, and a scraped arm, but I managed to catch the thing without hurting it, and received quite a lot of awe in return. A most amusing way to end the work day.
Also brightening my day was a package I received in the mail, containing a lovely necklace with a pendant featuring a sketch of a sail ship.
keleos, you are the best! *barely refrains from hugging you*

Date: 2004-05-11 08:28 am (UTC)I'll say that during the first Harold/Andy talk, I kept bouncing up and down crying Slashy! Slashy! Slashy! Guys talking about feelings. :-) well, Andy did at least. 'pouffy hat' made me laugh.
I'm less angry about some of the other subplots than many people are - I can see interesting stuff down the line. Last year the question was, will Colin die or won't he? This year there are at least three plotlines that can open up different ways..
