Spring Break, bad day, and movies.

Mmm, Spring Break is a marvelous thing. It feels so good to have some time off.
Spent Saturday with
cimmerianwillow. Thanks to a fan's generosity, she has a copy of Ioan Gruffudd's movie Very Annie Mary. Odd, odd movie, but very likable. Ioan plays a very very gay store clerk, paired with his real life best friend Matthew Rhys. They are amusingly named Hob and Nob :) Ioan's Welsh accent is so thick I could barely understand a word he said, but his mannerisms were what killed me. So, so funny. There's a bit where the two sing "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun", at which point I laughed so hard I fell off the couch.
Much of Monday was a pain in the ass. I took my car in to Walmart to get the 15-point service (fluid changes, new filters, chassis lube, etc) and the tires rotated and balanced. Got there around 12:45, not much of a line, thought "Fine, I'll just go wander around a bit, get some groceries for tonight's dinner, and by that time it'll be ready." Only it wasn't. I waited, and waited, and waited some more. Around 3:30 I called my sister to come get me so I could grab some lunch. She had to go to class, though, so back to Wally World for more waiting. At 4:30 I finally got my car. It took the bastards over four and a half hours to finish something that shouldn't have taken that long. I figured out the reason for the wait was that for the fluid service my car waited in one line, then for the tires it went into an entirely separate line (terribly inefficient, says I). Plus, the auto deparment was understaffed. So, waste of a perfectly good day off. By the time I finally got out of there, I was so pissed.
Good thing the rest of my day went pretty well. Came home and decided to bake - I made that Date and Walnut Loaf I'd been wanting to try, and it turned out nicely. For dinner I made a baked potato, cut it up, and topped it with black beans, melted cheeses, tomato, and light sour cream. 'Twas yummy.
Also, I watched the coolest movie, which was recommended to me by my good friend Keleos. Lagaan, an Indian film about, of all things, a cricket match. There's also singing and dancing, with some romance sprinkled in there alongside messages about equality and freedom. It's a whopping 4 hours long, but don't let that (or the singing) scare you. This may be my favorite foreign film ever. It's really that cool. And the male lead is really hot. This movie was just the thing to lift my spirits and improve my mood tonight. I laughed and smiled and squeed throughout. If you're a fan of foreign films, Middle Eastern music, and/or cricket, go forth and rent!

Date: 2004-03-09 01:00 pm (UTC)Such a fantastic movie. I keep feeling the need to make everyone watch it, but the whole 'four hour Hindi film about cricket' description seems to put them off...!

Date: 2004-03-09 02:19 pm (UTC)Oh and you're *so* right - it's his mannerisms that just... *dies thinking about it* I think I was almost *sick* laughing the first time we watched it! As for the accent... I find Welsh amusing enough at the *best* of times, but the first time Ioan opened his mouth in that one... *snorts head off* The damned thing should come with a health warning, I think!!!!!
