castalia: (Merlin - Arthur serious)

ARGH SHOW I HATE IT WHEN YOU DO THIS TO ME.

*deep breath*

Seriously, a good finale would have had Arthur finally find out about Merlin's powers. I was SO SURE it was going to happen, as they were alone after all the other knights were knocked out or crispyfied (and seriously, I hope Sir Leon was just knocked out, otherwise D:), but no, Arthur was unconscious AGAIN. No wonder he acts so goofy sometimes, considering the number of blows he takes to the head. We know you're pretty, Arthur, but just once it might be nice for you to keep that nice shiny helmet you have on your head during battles. Just sayin'.

Seriously, though, that was just too much of a cop-out. Don't use every trope in the book, including killing off Merlin's dad right after they meet (like that wasn't expected at ALL), then chicken out at the end. WTF.

They could have given us an awesome cliffhanger. Awesome. But now it's all back to the status quo pretty much, except for Morgana being off with Morgause. That's a great place to start next season, sure, but why go with just one thing that happened last week instead of a final one-two punch for maximum effect?

*sigh*

Otherwise, good stuff. Arthur and Merlin were way cute with their "if Arthur wasn't a prince, they'd be best buds and Merlin would still be just as impertinent as he is now" banter. Though Arthur's "no man is worth your tears" crap was shitty. Stop trying to be such a tough guy, Arthur, seriously. We all know how much of a marshmallow you are inside.

You owe us a LOT next season, Merlin writers. A lot. Get on it, right now please.

Yes, Arthur and Merlin were so cute! Fun banter. And I felt so bad for Merlin when he was trying to hide his tears after Dad died. Definitely some enjoyable parts to this episode.

But I agree that a cliffhanger ending - particularly Arthur finding out about Merlin - would have been much more satisfying. Or at least would have been more likely to keep me interested in the show.

I realize the show is based on the premise that Merlin can't reveal his magic, but it's hard for me not to get a little more frustrated with his character each time he delays or avoids using magic and people die. I want the reveal sooner, not later!

Exactly. I just really, really want someone to find out. It's getting a bit ridiculous for Arthur not to have realized - I was sure it would happen last week when Merlin said a spell right there with Arthur to cause the rock fall! There's no way Arthur didn't hear that.
