Neil Gaiman just tweeted back to me on Twitter. Sadly, it was in response to my response to his tweet about Will Shitterly and RaceFail09 and why I wasn't going to be buying his (WS's) books. I'm not quite sure how to feel about that.

Definitely not going to bring that up at the signing on the 14th, heh. Oh yes, forgot to say, [livejournal.com profile] shanola22, [livejournal.com profile] mir280, and I, as well as some of their family, are going to Gneil's book signing in Decatur, GA! Should be fun! I'm taking a 1st ed copy of Good Omens to be signed.

Neil Gaimen is an author who has written The Sandman, Coraline, Stardust etc. Twitter as I understand it is basically the same as status updates on facebook. You just put in whatever your thoughts are at that moment. Whatever you're doing, whoever you're talking to etc. You can follow people you know, and they can follow you. You can also reply back and forth I guess. So basically, CastalianSpring has had a very brief conversation with my favorite author.

I honestly think the big appeal of Twitter depends on who you are. For celebs, it's a gratification thing - they can see just how many fans they have online, who will hang on their every tweet, and it's an instant audience for them. For anyone else, you can keep track of your fave celebs, watch them be silly and amusing, or use Twitter as a way of making quick updates you wouldn't bother with on LJ or FB or whatever.

And basically, what Mir said. Neil tweeted about an author will a new book, telling everyone he was a good writer and to buy the book. Myself and at least one other person tweeted back to him saying yeah, you might not be aware of this author's huge part in RaceFail, where he said some truly horrible things and this is why we're not going to buy anything of his. So he tweeted back and said no, he wasn't aware, and not buying was certainly our prerogative (he may or may not care, hard to tell with authors, but he's usually very polite or diplomatic when interacting with people online).

Anyway, it's just weird having any sort of online "conversation" with a famous person.

I'm terribly proud of you for telling Neil about what an asshat W*** S is. I could wish he would actually look for himself and decide (and of course my preference would be he would not promote the W***S), but writing is probably a VERY small world. But YAY YOU for bringing it up! The only way to fight the W***S of the world is to keep telling people what they've said and done.

Heh, true. We'll definitely be going in everyday comfy clothes this time. Really looking forward to this, though.
