SGU 1x05 - Light

Okay, TPTB wanted more sex, and they have it, but is it too much to ask that it not come out of nowhere? Scott and James (did he forget about her or was it never anything serious?) was no problem, b/c we saw them before everyone was stranded on the ship and could fill in whatever back story was needed, but when did Scott and Chloe go from a fledgling friendship to jumping right into the sack together? I guess I can buy it in the face of possible imminent death, but still. I like slow progressions of this stuff. I want to care whether it happens or not.

I also hope they have protection and used it, b/c anyone getting pregnant aboard that ship is so doomed.

I was liking Young a lot so far, but then we had his first scene with Ming-Na tonight. Why such a douchebag, Young? She had multiple good points and you not only shot them all down without listening but you threatened her. And instead of having her stand up to him, the writers had her tear up and beg him not to take her name out of the lottery. Fail, writers.

Speaking of lotteries, I really hate plot lines like that. I wonder if there will be any fallout after this ep.

Eli's backstory isn't doing him too many favors in my eyes either. He reminds me too much of my lazy brother who has never worked hard or done much of anything except play video games and be content to mooch off of my parents. At least in Eli's case I assume he had a wake-up call at some point, unless that flashback was after he dropped out of school. If so, shame on Eli for letting his sick mother clean up after him.

I liked the bit about the "Goldilocks Zone" and I wonder if that's really what "they" call it.

Almost subtle reference to Camille's girlfriend back home.

There really doesn't seem to be much of a point for 17 people to try and live alone on a planet. What are they going to do besides live out their lives as long as possible? You can't start anew like that, supplies are limited, and not many people know how to grow their own food to that extent. It just felt so wrong to watch everyone sit back and not fight to try and fix the situation, try anything to save the ship.

Greer keeps getting more and more awesome. After reaching the conclusion that I hate Telford quite a lot, learning that Greer's brig-related incident was taking Telford down? Priceless. Love Greer. He also has very nice muscles, wowza. I love that he was happy to ride into the sun in his birthday suit.

At first I was convinced Rush was going to see something on Eli's kino that would let him solve the puzzle, but instead the ship renews itself from literal solar energy. Okay, the Ancients were pretty wacky, I'll buy it.

Really damn ironic for the lottery "winners" to suddenly become the ones about to be stranded while everyone else gets away. They did a little better with the tension this week compared to last week.

Rush is getting more personable, at least slightly. He didn't yell at anyone this week that I noticed, and his shocked reaction when Young ruffled his hair was hilarious. I...think I could happily read slash for those two. Young just needs to get back into my good books.

Then of course they tried to reverse all that bonding with the bad mood and the suspicion that he knew all along the ship would make it through the sun unscathed. I think that's a bit of a red herring, b/c that surprised happy attitude wasn't fake. Luckily everyone else agreed that he didn't know. Young's certainly a paranoid bastard all of a sudden.

My copy didn't have previews for next week, so I'll have to find out later what it's about.

I could have done without Chloe and Scott knocking boots, too, especially since they're also doing the "fat geek pining over the hot chick" thing with Eli and Chloe.

What You Said about Camille. They haven't done much with her character so far, and what little they have done hasn't impressed me overmuch.

Greer, otoh, I do like. And having him strip and wait naked for the end was awesome. It was also a nice balance to the gratuitous shower scene of Chloe and the one of the gal with the huge rack from last week.

I think Rush perhaps suspected that the ship might use the sun to refuel, but wasn't sure enough to put everyone's life at risk. I mean, we the audience saw his initial shock, surprise and delight when the lights came back on and he realized the ship was going to make it, and there was no reason for that reaction to be anything other than genuine as there were no witnesses.

Of course, if he indeed did have suspicions that the ship was going to use the star to refuel, he could have just told Young that. OTOH, in the face of Young's paranoia, I can see why he might hold his tongue. Though, honestly? Young's reaction just seemed tacked on because Rush was almost human in this episode and the writers decided to crank the doubt and mistrust back up again in a ham-handed fashion.

Also? I totally agree with you on the possibility of Young/Rush slash, especially after the hair-ruffling thing. *facepalm*
