Florida was great, miss the beach already. Details later, for right now a link to a great summary of what's going on in Iran.

Some great info here and lots of links

General info and listings of US-based protest rallies. I have to work on Friday or else I'd be in Nashville. Hell, I may get off as soon as possible and drive up there anyway.

For once, I'm impressed by Twitter. I love that it's being used as an instrument of good here.

I've been reading the live posts at [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political since I got back. The photos of the protests are just astounding, and I'm especially moved by all the women so bravely putting themselves out there. Just, wow.

ETA: Awesome post on why we should care.

I guess I'm just old and numb. I think it's great that the Iranians are standing up for themselves, but I don't get the jumping on the bandwagon fervor from everywhere else. Students getting shot is nothing new to me; Kent State happened near my home. Plus, no one seems to care much about homegrown erosion of rights. Authorities torture and abuse in the U.S. every day. Where's the outrage?

I'm certainly still outraged about things here at home, but I recognize that I'm privileged b/c I can still get online and read about those atrocities. I have internet and phone service, and the Iranians are having that taken away from them because the government wants them silenced.

*gasp* gang sign in icon!!!!! (just kidding)
Privileged? If you say so. I say we are allowed these things because our populace isn't troublesome enough. Yet. ;-)

I almost got Twitter just because of this. Then I thought better of it. Anyway, yes, these women are totally my heroes right now. I'm so happy they're speaking up.
