*sigh*

There's nothing quite so irritating when one is ill than getting up to discover there's no milk for one's tea. Argh.

Normally I'd be rather upset about not working much this week b/c staying home equals less money, but I feel rotten enough to be glad for the extra sleep time. I'd feel guilty for doing nothing but sitting around in pajamas, but since I'm eating almost nothing aside from chicken noodle soup and crackers, I figure it evens out.

I finally got curious and bought one of those neti pots for sinus irrigation that I've been hearing so much about. It's awkward and messy and an incredibly odd sensation, but it does seem to work well enough. I'm hoping in the long run it'll reduce my sinus troubles.

Is it Saturday yet? *needs new Merlin now*

{{{sympathies}}}

I am enjoying a nice cup of the chocolate honeybush tea that I picked up at the farmer's market last week. There's just something about a hot cuppa when the weather is awful and you're feel poorly.

Ooh, that sounds good. Tea is really a wonderful remedy, which I think I'll go have now that I have milk again. It's all rainy and dreary here, so I'm quite happy to stay in with a warm cuppa and watch my shows.

:( *pats you gently* Good thing we rattled around town last weekend, then. I had been looking out at the sunshine and thinking I had miscalculated. Feel better soon, yes?

I probably did hit Dubya-mart once or twice in pj pants and a sweatshirt in college.

I am feeling better today, so that's something. I'm almost finished with mum's mittens but I'll have to tink back a bit today b/c I started the decreases at the top too early on the second one (that'll teach me not to make better notes for the first one). The original one blocked out okay but I hated the thumb construction. Not sure if that's just the pattern or b/c I didn't put the hole in the right place or what, but mom didn't like it either so I ripped it out completely. Live and learn.

I can see why an afterthought is a very bad idea with colorwork. It very much relies on the surrounding fabric stretching, which works great for most stitch patterns but just isn't going to happen here. I can also see why the author wrote it that way, because I'm sure you discovered how much trouble it is to add those increases and stay in pattern. So yeah, live and learn. This way, you got to play with the pretty colors more, yes?

The stretch was a bad thing, yeah. I've done a simple checkered thumb gore instead so the increases were a breeze and I didn't have to bother staying in pattern. It's doing the decreases in pattern that's the problem - since I've used sport weight instead of fingering, I have 1/3 fewer repeats of the pattern and that looked odd to me. So I shifted the thumb around so that I get the big pretty snowflakes centered on the top of the mittens. Unfortunately, that means my decreases are in the middle of the chart instead of at the sides, so I have to pay much more attention to where I am and how to make the pattern line up properly.

... Yeah, I'll let you do that and I'll stick with ribbing. Lovely, stretchy 2x2 ribbing! How fast it works up! How deceptively tiny it looks! How funny it is when I mention it and you pull faces!

EWWWWWW ribbing. :P I think I'd rather mess with the damn decreases than do ribbing. Oh, how I hate it. The lovely thing about these mittens is only having two rows of ribbing. Yay!
