Am still downloading vids, but for now, here's a spoiler from Gateworld that made me go "bzuh???!"

Michael Shanks reveals Continuum spoiler

Bits what I want to point out and go bzuh over:

Because of his filming commitment to 24, Shanks could not join castmates Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, and Ben Browder on their recent Arctic shoot. To explain Daniel's absence, writer/executive producer Brad Wright created a surprise twist for the character.

Dr. Jackson is not in the Arctic because his character has lost a leg, a problem he wrestles with throughout much of the film.

Tired of simply killing the good Dr Jackson, the writers have now decided to maim him instead. Sadly, this too will fail to be permanent, as Continuum is going to end with yet another massive abuse of the reset button (which is filing for damages against Mallozzi and Mullie). I really wish they'd stop doing time travel/alternate reality stories, as it completely negates character evolution. We had one for the season finale, you dolts, so why are you wasting one of the movies on it!!

The sad thing is, I intrigued about what Shanks could do with that storyline, how the whole thing might affect Daniel and his place on the team and his work and all that. It's like one big wallowing h/c fic. But it's difficult to get into such a story and enjoy the actor's foray into dark and bitter (Seriously, Daniel even more bitter? He's going to be spitting acid literally if they're not careful.), when you know it's all going to be reset in the end. Damn them for cowards, again.

A bit of a side note, I'll bet he was bummed about not getting to go to the Arctic. I know I would be. Still, it gave us all those lovely bare chested scenes in 24, so the sacrifice was for the greater good.

Holy crap! Archeology didn't look so dangerous on documentaries.

Head, meet desk. Rinse, repeat.

Ten quid says the disability studies part of my brain tries to commit seppuku at least four times in the first hour of the movie.

Hee, too true. The only possible saving grace is the bit where it says MS's grandfather lost a leg in WWII - maybe that connection will help prevent the whole thing from being too horrible. Please, Shanks, don't go too OTT.

Still, I don't think I'll take your bet ;P

It seems kind of an extreme solution to the actor's absence during those scenes.

PTB1: "Hey, that bum Shanks is off playing on another show! How can we explain away Jackson's absence during the Arctic scenes?

PTB2: "He hates the cold?"

PTB3: "Another mission somewhere else?"

PTB2: "Yet another funeral of a beloved but previously unmentioned colleague?"

PTB3: "Appendicitis? Nope, sorry, already used that one."

PTB4: "I KNOW! LET'S CUT HIS LEG OFF!"

PTB1,2,&3: O.O O.O O.o

I'd say I feared they were reading too much fanfic, but this is Daniel and I think that boat has already sailed. I must admit I'm a bit sad they aren't going to kill him again...after about the 5th time it became almost comforting to know that some things don't change. Plus, I always get twitchy when he stays alive too long, it just feels wrong.

I'd say they weren't cruel enough to chop off his leg and kill him in the same film, but this is the same group who killed him with radiation poisoning. Still, maybe they'll save the dying for the other film? You're right, it would be fitting.

I told Mum about it and she says, I quote, "why didn't they just break his leg?". She's smart, that one.

I thought it was appropriate. Penguins, arctic and wtf. All the things I'm feeling.

I figure they thought about it then we're all "well...we do have a reset button..."

"We could...you know...uhm, take his leg off."

"You. Are. Brilliant." I think that's roughly how it went.
