greensilver just posted a link to the most fascinating article on why frogs are the best survivors among the vertebrates. Recent research shows frog eggs are capable of adapting in the presence of predators in various ways, while the tadpoles can change the color of their tails (to give predators a less lethal target to bite at) within a single generation.

The egg thing is particularly cool, as I've heard of many animals' eggs able to adapt hatching time according to the influence of water temperature and other such environmental variables, but never due to the simple chemical cues of a predator in such a specific way. I would love to read the articles produced from this research, if I can find what journals they're being published in. Way cool stuff.
