Ok, this didn't show up correctly the first time, so here we go again...
I think this is finally ready to post. I've been wanting to compile a list of my favorite fan vids, and then I realized, there's a *lot* of them. Here are the ones still available online, by category.
Drama
Darkness, Darkness by Jo and Gwyneth - One of my top ten favorite vids, ever. Jo and Gwyn are the only ones who have vidded Miracles, to my knowledge, and they've done it perfectly (even with access to only the first 6 episodes). The song choice couldn't be better, and the same goes for the clip choices. I've written a longer commentary on this vid, which I'll post soon.
When I'm Gone by Ashinae - All I need to say about this vid is "Boromir! *sob*". Sad, sad, sad...
Liberi Fatali, also by Ashinae - Rohirrim! Bravery and more sadness.
Duende by
astolat - Brand new Master and Commander vid by Shalott. Very, very cool. The source material is brilliantly clear, and she does wonderful things with tempo and timing (the bits where Stephen opens his eyes after surgery, and when the beetle opens its wings are marvelous). Slashy for the slashy-minded, but can be viewed as gen, I should think.
Kryptonite by Seah and Margie - This is probably the best Invisible Man vid ever, and one of my favorites in general. The best use of this song I've seen, as well. An intense look at the Darien/Bobby relationship, and their personal demons. Amazing interpretation of the lyrics, especially the "kryptonite" sections. The POV shifts are easy to follow and the editing is clean and crisp. This would make a great recruiter vid, so don't worry if you don't know the fandom. It really highlights the best of the show. Also, best ending ever.
Flying Home by Morgan Dawn - Due South vid. The first word that comes to mind with this one is "gorgeous". There are so many layers to this vid; every time I watch I catch something new. Morgan does amazing things with motion and color, with the beauty of the landscapes. Watch for a very cool effect towards the end. Her vids are available to download if you ask her for the password.
Testify by Morgan Dawn - This Starsky & Hutch vid is probably one of my favorite vids ever. It's just...wow. Like most of
morgandawn's S&H vids, this one is very Hutch-centric. She also includes footage from other 70s sources, giving the vid a gritty look of realism. The section around 2:57 where the music swells and then reaches its climax...amazing clip choices. I just can't say enough good things about this one. A heart-wrenching look at the 70s, the show, and our favorite White Knight.
Never Die Young by Barkley - One of my favorite Stargate SG1 vids. Lots of clips from Meridian, and this one makes me tear up nearly every time. "Brilliantly bitter", indeed.
Big Man on Mulberry Street by
laurashapiro - The ultimate Ray Vecchio vid. Much love. Laura has remastered this one and will making it available soon, so keep an eye on her LJ.
Rook by Laura Shapiro - An X-Files vid, and another of my all-time favorites. The layers in this vid...Laura does so many excellent things with color, shape, light and darkness, it's impossible to catch them all in one viewing.
Haunted by Seah & Margie - This Odyssey 5 vid made huge waves at last year's VividCon, despite the fact that few people had even heard of the show. It will forever be known as "the one where the Earth blew up", but that's not the only amazing thing about this vid. The storytelling power here is superb, and the vidders have done wonderful things with motion.
I'll Keep Your Secrets by KOBA-TV - A John/Aeryn Farscape vid.
What is Eternal by KOBA-TV - Awesome Crais vid to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra song. Best Crais character vid I've seen, and the timing during the instrumental bridge in the middle of the song is great.
Who Wants to Live Forever? by Birgit - A powerful look at Season Three (the "Season of Death") of Farscape. Sad, but beautiful. I just adore the motion in the clip used at 2:45.
The Show Must Go On - Another Farscape vid, and another good use of an oft-vidded song. The best Chiana character vid out there, and the effects are terrific.
Kid Fears by Shalott - A Star Wars vid to my favorite Indigo Girls song. An amazing look at both of Amidala's children, Luke and Leia, and their journey through the three original movies. Very cool use of timing at 3:34.
Uninvited by Shalott - A Silence of the Lambs vid that premiered at last year's VividCon. Creepy, atmospheric, and just wonderfully done.
In the End by D2 - A Sam/Josh West Wing vid. This was the first time I heard this song, and I immediately fell in love with it. There are a few problems with this vid (overlong clips, the inclusion of sound clips, the strange ending), but overall, it's good. I love the use of the sirens at the beginning (I always hear sirens now whenever I listen to the song), and the motion and timing.
Peacekeeper by Sisabet - Another VividCon 2003 vid. Probably my favorite Buffy vid. I adore the song, the pacing, the clip choices, everything.
The Pretender by dr dawn - My favorite Angel vid. Slash, Angel/Wes. Or, as the vidder puts it, "The story of a man, his vampire lover and the baby they lost. And a crossbow."
Without You I'm Nothing by sisabet - My god, I love this vid. Such an intense vid, and the best look at the Clark/Lex relationship I've seen. The editing is just amazing.
Brothers in Arms by Morgaine - This was the first Blake's 7 vid I saw, so I'm rather fond of it. Perhaps an overvidded song, but I love it. The timing at the beginning with the blaster shots is wonderful, and the ending just kills me.
Humor
I Can Change by Kaliroi - One of the funniest vids I've ever seen. Smallville vid starring Lex Luthor, to the song sung by Saddam Hussein in the South Park movie. No, really. The section where Bo Kent looks like he's lip synching to the song...priceless.
Nothing Without Me by Rhian - My favorite Stargate humor vid. This one never fails to crack me up completely. The song is a rare male duet, and perfectly illustrates the bantering/bickering side of the Jack/Daniel relationship. Lovely timing in this vid which adds to the overall humor effect. Also check out Rhian's "Airhead" vid, a humorous look at Jack.
Rishathra by Chris & Christina Video Productions - Galaxy Quest to one of my favorite Ookla the Mok filk songs. Absolutely hysterical.
Istanbul by
alasen - Very funny Due South vid which uses the two Rays as the running joke (Istanbul vs. Constantinople). Short but sweet.
Too Bad by Jo & Gwyneth - Fabulous Keen Eddie vid. It took me a while to like the song, but the vid is just fantastic overall. A good look at the quirkiness of the show (and the slashiness). Very creative opening sequence.
Whatever by Luminosity and Sisabet - Absolutely hysterical Angel vid. The movements, the facial expressions, the song...*dies*
I Need a Hero by Birgit - Best use of this overvidded song ever. John/Aeryn-centered Farscape vid.
Blew 'em Away by Shalott - Not your typical Highlander vid *g* Too funny.
Razzle Dazzle by Killa - Another one from last year's VividCon, and the funniest Star Trek:TOS vid I've seen. The timing is wonderful. You'll have to ask Killa for the password to access this one.
Polka Party by Waldo - This is a decidedly odd vid, to be expected when the song choice is a Weird Al song. "Channel Surfing, Vidder Style". My favorite bit? The random squid.
General
Wouldn't It Be Nice by Laura Shapiro - A multi-fandom slash vid which Laura describes as "pure fluff", but it's gooood fluff. A very cute vid, and one that features a plethora of fandoms. My only quibble is her choice of Rays ;)
From Where I Stand by Justine Bennett - Interesting look at the relationships involved with Fraser, Vecchio, and Kowalsky. Neither Ray is favored, so it's safe no matter which Ray you swing.
Life is a Road by Strange Music - Multi-pairing LOTR slash vid (clips only from FOTR) which is a real "feel good" piece for me. Very reminiscent, in a way, and very hopeful. Also check out her LOTR vid "The Ring", which uses a song that could have been written specifically about the One Ring.
Adiemus by Birgit - Another gorgeous, atmospheric vid. An mostly instrumental vid which highlights the beauty and scope of Farscape.
The Different by Bonibaru - One of the earliest Smallville vids. Great use of the first season and all its HoYay goodness. Slash, Clex.
Hornblower by Killa - Killa had several great vids at VividCon, and this is my favorite HH vid. It's an instrumental, using two different Clandestine songs that are flawlessly editing together. Great use of timing and motion.
This is Not My Idea by Zoe Rayne - Great Pirates of the Caribbean vid from VividCon 2003. The best PotC vid I've seen yet, I think.
Hallelujah by
mimesere - Ok, so there's a tie for best PotC vid. This one is a Norrington character vid, and it rocks like a great big rocking thing. Norrington! <3
I think that's enough to keep you busy for a while. Please follow the netiquette involved when dealing with vids. Most of the vidders have policies on their sites, so please heed them.
Edited to fix my mistake concerning Shalott's vids. Sorry!
