Torchwood 1x08

They seem to be getting steadily better with this series. This week was mostly good, with only a few things for me to cringe at.
The good:
Suzie in general. The black female detective surrounded by quite a few other women cops, all of them more competent than Gwen. Another interracial couple, sadly dead, but still there and they were obviously happy together). Continuing poetry references; Dickinson this week after the Yeats in ep 5 (points off for none of them knowing from which poem the line "and I could not stop for death" comes, however). Some nice foreshadowing, and last but not least, a stopwatch.
Seriously, Jack/Ianto is canon now, right? Right.
The bad:
Why the hell did Suzie think Gwen was just oh so perfect and so much better at the job? This insistence on Gwen's "specialness" is getting old. Gwen said she had a talent, so what is it? Running faster than everyone else? Being the empathetic one who trusts people too much and nearly gets herself killed all the damn time? Okay. Not sure I'd call that a talent, but okay. It's like Rose 2.0.
Man, that must've burned when Gwen found out Suzie'd been shagging Owen, too. For all Gwen's insistence that the Torchwood crew is too ignorant of each other, she doesn't seem to bother making that first step to get to know them. Not really get to know them. Except for Owen, but it seems she's restricting that to the Biblical sense.
Also good - twin acrobats. I'd so buy Captain Jack's book, should he write it.
All the Jack/Ianto was good. Ianto seems to be feeling better this week, offering up plenty of jokes and cheeky smiles, not to mention the flirting. I like.
I hope we get to see the female detective again, maybe as a recurring character. They could use a good liaison in the police force, and this chick seems loads more competent than Gwen ever was. Part of me wishes we could've kept Suzie, but oh well. Bringing her back to life twice might be pushing it.
Poor Rhys. Gwen never sees him anymore and she's cheating on him, but at least she's going to leave him all her things. How lovely.
So, how's about a game of "101 Things to Do with a Stopwatch"?
I need a Torchwood icon. Hm.
