Y'know, one would think these Asgard ships wouldn't be so crappy, but they seriously get their asses kicked all the time. The Odyssey will be out of commission for ages now.

Aw, and there goes yet ANOTHER ship commander. I'd just gotten to like this one, too. Poor Emerson.

Loved the crap ship Vala found and her suggestion of taking Daniel along so they'd appear non-threatening. Hee.

Vala: "...but it's probably better than our plan."
Sam: "What's your plan?"
Daniel: "We don't have one."

Hee.

Loved seeing Cameron get to do a little acting, though I was flashing back to Crichton-as-Peacekeeper all the time. At least he didn't try any weird accents this time (I love his Southern one too much anyway). And there was some nice Cam/Teal'c stuff once Teal'c was captured. That muscle in Ben's cheek jumps around about as much as Richard Burgi's, which is saying something.

Lots of casual killing in this episode. Kind of unusual for SG-1, really.

Dude, Vala beamed him out into space! Heh, awesome.

Nice stalling, Daniel. I know you laugh in the face of death, but lately you've been literally laughing. It's cool but we worry for what little may be left of your sanity.

"For the record, I'm always prepared. I just have to press this button here." - Okay, I love this guy. Tell me he'll stick around longer than Emerson did. He's come through okay so far.

It was pretty obvious that Cameron was pretending to be Netan, especially after we saw him pat the alien guy's shoulder, but oh well. It was still entertaining.

Not a very exciting ep, and the only slightly interesting member of the Lucien Alliance got shot, but some nice character moments.

Carson gets to go through the gate, yay! And he and Rodney are already bickering, I love it.

I get the feeling those marines won't be surviving long. Call it a hunch.

Aw, they mentioned the Prometheus! I miss that ship.

I loved the look Carson gave Rodney when he told the wounded soldier to hang in there. Last week really did affect Rodney, and the others are starting to notice.

Smartest man he's ever met, hm? Just don't tell him that, it'd go straight to his head ;P

Cool, Teyla got shot. I think that's the first time for her.

Okay, so we get Sheppard flashbacks and suddenly there's Xena-style music playing. Who's doing the music for this one? It's very Joe LoDuca-esque.

Oh, now that I didn't see coming. Poor Carson. Damn.

I'll bet Rodney is hallucinating the readings.

So John can't tell East from West. Tell me again how he made Colonel?

Okay, that definitely looked like it hit McKay in the chest, but in the next shot the wound is in his side. WTF?

He shot McKay with an automatic weapon and "he's fine"???! Even with it in his side instead of his chest, that's still a vulernable area. Please, can we have some realism with gunshot wounds for once? Remember Daniel's shoulder wound that was still life-threatening b/c he lost so much blood? See the poor marine who bled to death just now with a shoulder wound? C'mon, some consistency here. I'm with [livejournal.com profile] ophidiae, these writers need a crash course in "injuries you can give your characters that they could survive realistically".

Other than that, terrific episode. I just wish they hadn't let it down at the end for a cheap laugh.

That line absolutely killed me.

Elizabeth blew someone went to bat for him and secured him both the promotion and the command position. They mention it at the start of Season 2. That's the only reason because, truth? He doesn't deserve it. I mean, I like the character and I think he's a shitty leader.

And yes, we are in total agreement on both Rodney's Moving Injury and the whole downplaying the seriousness of it all at the end, especially for a cheap laugh. *sporks the idiot writer*

Yeah, I remember her getting him the position. I meant how did he even get up to Major in the first place so that he could be promoted. IMO, he didn't deserve to be more than an average soldier.

I hate cheap laughs. It did give us a nice moment where Rodney trusted Teyla to be smart enough to remember how to turn the device off, but man, there had to be a better way to do that. *sigh* Get that care package ready.

Sheppard is a shitty leader in the same way that Beckett is a shitty doctor: Because the writers are asshats who don't do their research and ignore little things like, say, continuity and character development. That I find Sheppard's flaws less egregious than Beckett's is purely a matter of personal taste.

That's the characters, mind you, not the actors. I think both actors are quite talented, and should not be blamed for the crap the writers inflict on them.

I wanted to mention that I did enjoy that Vala was helping to fix the ship, showing she is smart and will be useful, as well as other people besides Sam can fix things.
