Worried...

I'm seriously worried about my cat. She's limping, not able to put even the slightest weight on one of her back legs. I have no idea what happened, if she was hit, or hurt by another animal, or if she just twisted it, or what. It *looks* fine, but she won't let anyone touch it so I can't tell if it's broken.

I'm taking her to the vet at noon. That should be fun. Last time she went, she snapped at the doc and he ended up wrapping her in a towel to get the job done. Oy.

Good vibes are appreciated. I can't do without my kitty.

Home from the vet, and what a harrowing experience that was. First off, cat is ok, and her leg isn't as bad as I'd feared. He said it looks like she's been bitten by another animal, most likely a cat, and has some swelling. It must not have been too bad, b/c there was never any blood that we could see. We have antibiotics and are keeping her indoors. Am greatly relieved.

As for the trip to the vet itself, what a mess. I have now witnessed the phenomenon that turns my slightly moody but mostly sweet and good-natured cat into a screaming, hissing hellcat more closely resembling a miffed mountain lion. She was fine on the way in the car, but she was most certainly not fine when Brad tried to stick the thermometer where you usually stick thermometers. She hissed. I was instructed to grab the fur at the back of her neck firmly and he tried again. She lunged free, hissed and made one of those noises like a house cat trying to reclaim its cougar ancestry. My sister and I were told to leave the room, and I heard Brad ask the assistant to get "the pole".

While in the waiting room, we heard a variety of yowls, hisses, screeches, and finally plaintive "why are you doing this to me" mmrows. The lady at the desk perceptive stated "That is one unhappy cat." Huh. No shit.

When we were allowed back in (by this time my mum had arrived), we were treated to the sight of my kitty with one of those animal control poles looped around her neck, with an indignant look saying "Look what they've done, get me out of this instantly." There were also bloodied wipes in the sink, as she'd managed to claw the vet's hand even while restrained (she did that last time, too, little beast, although I wasn't there). No longer being violated, she let me pick her up with no problems and we took her home, avec antibiotics for her and neosporin for me, as I had the crap clawed out of my shoulder due to a clinging cat. Good thing she has no problem taking medicine...

Thanks to everyone who sent good thoughts and vibes, Penney and I appreciate it. Much {{{hugs}}} to all of you! I'm upset that she was bitten, but at least it's not broken. I do fear this means she's getting slower in her old age (10+ yrs) and we might not be able to let her outside as much anymore. If I ever meet the animal that bit her, I'll kick the thing into next week.
