On Saturday morning I was on my way to the pier to have scones, enjoying the quiet back road, when I was stopped by a rather strange looking lady who was coming the opposite way. She held out a little booklet and asked if I'd take it. I asked what it was, and as she flipped through it I immediately recognized the "artwork".

Yup, it was a Jack Chick tract. This one, says Google. I asked to check if it really was and she confirmed, so I said no thanks. Wouldn't touch one, and I'm Episcopalian anyway.

I laughed to myself all the way to the pier, boggling. Honestly, a Jack Chick tract in Wales? I've never been offered one in the US, but I run into one here? Totally a "bzuh?" moment.

I was mailed those by a bloke in Tasmania. That counts as geographically distant as Wales, I reckon! And yes, I'm an Anglican, too.

Geez, it's scary how widespread they've gotten. The very idea makes most Anglicans I know cringe.

Man, the music on that site was really fucking annoying, with no way to turn it off. I only made it about halfway through the pamphlet before falling asleep.

There was music? Oops, sorry. I have scripts turned off unless I approve them so the music didn't load for me. The tract itself is dull as hell and does the usual "let's blame the war (even though we supported it), gays, liberals and other people living-in-sin" crap.

Until reading this post, I had *no* idea those things were called Jack Chick tracts! But I do know I found some when I was a kid and they absolutely *haunted* me for years.

And now every so often, I find them spread throughout my store, tucked into new age and relationship books. And, oddly enough, Cliffs Notes. *scratches head*

One day, I dream of catching the people putting out those stupid things. It'll be fun for me, but not so much for them, I think. >=(

Ugh, I hope you do catch them one day. Those things are just horrific. Jack Chick has become sort of infamous on the 'net, I think, mostly due to one tract that goes on about Dungeons and Dragons and how people who play it and other RPGs are really witches covens in disguise trying to seduce teenagers. It was really whacko.

We had some mormons in Stamford (little market town in Linclonshire which I come from), they were very nice, but a bit surprising. They always seemed happy with the answer "Thanks, but my family are catholics.", whenever they tried to convert me.

Wow, I'd be surprised to run into Mormons in that area, too. Weird.
