Atlantis rocks my socks this week.

OMG. I think I enjoyed this episode more than any other recent eps, despite others in this half of the season being the "big, dramatic" ones. Mostly I liked it b/c it was a true TEAM episode, or more accurately, an ensemble show. Everyone got something to do, everyone was heroic in their way and everyone kicked ass.
I loved how instead of an hour of trying to save the planet, they accepted right off that saving it just wasn't going to happen and focused on getting the hell out of there instead.
I love how everyone realizes McKay works best when he thinks they'll all die if he doesn't figure something out.
I loved Teyla and Ronon once again, how they do all the grunt work and are quietly heroic off where no one else will see them. Ronon running back with all those kids hanging off him made me love his crazy, violent-yet-fuzzy contradictory self even more. And dude, he and Teyla have such great chemistry.
The sight of the Stargate getting swallowed by all that hot magma? Geekgasm. The effects were really well done.
Who did the music for this one? The swelling chorus when they revealed the ship (and dude, I liked the name of the general guy better than Orion) was so...LOTR.
Dude, after watching Shep act like a moron (can he keep it in his pants for even ONE episode??? Geez. And after I defended him in 1st season against the Shepwhore moniker) and go after the girl even when she seemed to like Rodney...it's stuff like this that makes me completely unable to see the whole McShep thing. Really. I don't see how you can spin it that Shep was jealous b/c Rodney liked her. Protecting her then standing there staring into her eyes while McKay got completely ignored? Geez, that's not slashy. They're totally competing for the girls, except McKay didn't seem to care much. Thank god they never had Jack and Daniel competing for the BOTW.
WTF is Brandy doing as a blonde, anyway? She wasn't too bad here, but I had painful Agent Monroe flashbacks.
David cracked me up with the "first we have to get off" thing. Can't believe they went there. *g*
The Chancellor dude is a total "hey, it's that guy!", except I can't quite place him. Pretty sure he was on SG-1 at some point, though.
McKay's solution was crazy and physics totally threw up its hands in disgust and walked out on him, but I can handwave, and it was still cool. Besides, it's a nice contrast against Sam who is always so confident. Amusing how after everyone tells him how clever he is, Rodney is all "it probably won't work anyway...". Heh.
Hermiod continues to be a snarky little pessimist. *hearts*
We have an ancient warship now, yay! Except it still won't be enough. And we're back to the whole "omg, the Wraith are coming" thing again. I hope they can manage to put a different spin on it this time.
*very happy this week*

Date: 2006-01-26 02:01 pm (UTC)You own the DVDs from the UK? I keep meaning to get those, but meanwhile I have put mine all onto DVD. They take up a lot less space than all those tapes! oi!
