Sci-Fi Friday thoughts.

Like most people, I really enjoyed the ep but think it would have been so much better if these scenes hadn't been cut. Honestly, I could've done with less technobabble (mostly b/c it makes Sam sound so damn boring) and more giving the black team a bit more depth. I'm very amused at DeLuise's lack of insight for once, b/c Malozzi was obviously hinting at black!Daniel and black!Cameron being together in Scene 13. Obviously.
Janet returning was lovely, though I was surprised that we only got the one scene with her and Sam, and not until the very end. Daniel's reaction was well done, however, especially the very genuine looking hug at the end.
Martouf! JR is looking fab these days and it was cool to see him again.
Siler! Long time no see, Sparky.
Dr Lee! I will never tire of Dr Lee. I'm very happy they let him be smart in this, as well.
All the hinting around at the marital statuses of the AU!Sams? Yawn. So vague it could have meant anyone, from Jack to Daniel to Pete to a still-alive Narim or something. Let's move on.
That Asgard was uber annoying. Daniel's "I miss Thor" had me in stitches.
Re the "When the time comes, cut the green wire" thing - if they don't revisit this soon I'll be so disappointed. I'm crossing my fingers for future continuity with this. If I were Mitchell, I'd worry whether or not black!Mitchell gave him real advice or was trying to get some rather fatal revenge.
I definitely liked the referencing of past alternate universe and black hole eps. But the initial briefing room scene was a bit odd - why would Daniel be skeptical about AUs when he's experienced several of them firsthand? I suppose the lack of a quantum mirror might do it, but still. Weird.
Mitchell's throw-away comment about bad AU guys wearing beards filled me with geeky joy.
Daniel's expressions every time Sam went off on a technobabble tangent cracked me up. He really has spent too much time with Jack over the years.
Mitchell's family sounds absolutely hysterical. Aunt Emma! Orange juice!
To sum up, yes, the ep pleased me but as usual I think it was a good ep that could've been so much better if we weren't restricted so much by time these days. The cut scenes would have added SO much.
I've already talked a bit about this one, but I'm still pissed at how the torture thing was taken so lightly. No one had enough evidence on Kavanagh to really suspect him and I have no respect for Weir if she's willing to torture someone as a suspect almost purely on the basis that she doesn't like him. Her reactions to Kavanagh have always been unjustified - people skills or no, he was never disrespectful or anything until she started in on him (unless pointing out valid risks in a plan counts as disrespect these days; I'm still trying to figure out why she jumped on him with the "trying to save your own ass" comment). *sigh* I find myself missing Jessica Steen as Weir more and more often.
Also, the Teyla bashing is getting to be a bit juvenile. I'm only seeing it from the Weir/Shep shippers for the most part, which is quite telling. Dislike musical sequences all you want, but let's not turn it into a 'Teyla/Rachel Luttrell sucks' campaign. Grow up, people.
Still waiting on the BSG download. Concerning last week's ep, I was very glad Caine wasn't shown as a cardboard cutout villian. The "kids in bodybags" scene, Starbuck's comment about being safer with her than without her, and Caine's changing her mind about killing Adama cemented that a bit more for me. And the way she died, how proud and dignified she was - that got me. I really cared that she died, instead of being glad.
I was a bit confused about how Adama thought Starbuck could get away with shooting Caine right there on her bridge, though. The minute she shot her, Starbuck would've been taken by the marines or possibly shot by them. It's almost a suicide mission.
Pegasus!Six continues to fascinate me. For a blond bombshell, Tricia Helfer can ACT.
When the Pegasus jarhead told Tyrol not to worry, they'd "take it real slow", I so thought there was going to be a male rape scene.
So is the Blackbird toast? Completely? Damn, there goes another advantage, not to mention Tyrol's baby of inspiration.
The music was gorgeous as always. Loved the strings when Apollo was spinning in space.
And finally, Adama/Roslin, OMG. The novelty of seeing mature adults kissing on a modern tv series amuses me. I like that it's not all about the pretty young things on this show. Adama looks so dorky when he's in lurve.
Whee, my BSG 213 download just finished. *off to watch it*

but I'm still pissed at how the torture thing was taken so lightly.
Argh, so am I. Even if they had some very minimal evidence pointing toward him, they had no way of being positive that it was him. I was really quite satisfied it wasn't.

That musical sequence? Probably one of my favorite things this mini-season. I found it quite beautiful.

Date: 2006-01-22 11:32 pm (UTC)What are the chances of the missing scenes being on the DVDs? *sighs* They could have easily cut out one of the many duplicate!Sam scenes to give us the Daniel/Cameron bit.
And I can't believe how far off PDL was with that one, lol. *thwaps him*

Date: 2006-01-23 01:12 am (UTC)PDL is usually so in tune. It's very sad. I think his Sam obsession is to blame.
