Chief Justice Rehnquist has died.
Shit.
Just...shit.
Other people have been posting excellent links (some useful, some informative, some downright scary and depressing) regarding the Katrina aftermath:
See
nzraya for information about the evacuation efforts, appalling delays due to frakking paperwork, and even more appalling ways the government screwed up and is continuing to screw up.
elke_tanzer has, as always, compiled an excellent collection of links and information. Check her memories for more info.
For those of you pointing to
interdictor's journal,
boniblithe has posted some background information you should know. This guy is not a reliable source of information.
Some good links from

Date: 2005-09-04 05:33 pm (UTC)As a Libertarian of the mindset that the government has been broken for over 50 years, I sadly can't work up any fury toward tptb. I can only hope that people can move past the ad hominem attacks on the current cast of villains to understand that the system has to come down. FEMA has always been a joke. The gubmint of any flavor (police, army, representatives) has never had the mission of protecting the citizenry. Any one who thinks differently is, IMO, sadly naive. In my world, it's always been every man for himself. The lesson that should be imparted from this is prep to save your own ass, wherever you are, whatever your situation.
Unfortunately, this will just ratchet up the partisan hatred and race/class warfare. As long as tptb can keep everyone occupied with that, this country will continue to exist only as a crippled, entitlement-voter fueled corporate entity.
Other than that, Dragon*Con rocks. ;-)
