First, some Hewlett news. Nothing is going to be released on DVD in Canada and the US! You can pre-order it at DVDImport.com for $18.77. The release date is Dec. 7, so just in time for Christmas. This is really a must have for DH fans, or just fans of wacky yet brilliant Canadian movies in general.
Anyone, Hornblower fan or not, should go over to
ship_manifesto (have I mentioned how much I love this community?) right now and read
tanacawyr's Horatio/Archie essay. I knew she would more than do them justice, and I wasn't disappointed.
*realizes she has little more than a month to write her own Beckett/McKay essay, panics a bit*
Have I pimped
cimmerianwillow lately? Even if I have, I'm going to do it again, b/c she should be pimped and often. I don't think I'm showing too much bias when I say she's the most talented fan artist on the web these days. Hornblower, Starsky and Hutch, Xena, Oz, Barney Miller, LOTR - there's a bit of everything, so go check it out. Plenty of fic as well - my all-time favorite Horatio/Archie stories, Bush/Cotard (a marvelous minor HH pairing she has taken and made her own), and utterly wonderful Harris/Dietrich Barney Miller slash. Go, read.
Some vid recs, with thanks to
permetaform for pointing them out:
Prayer for the Dying by
f1renze - An Angels in America vid that really blew me away, despite knowing absolutely nothing about the source. So very impressive, and now I have another must-own DVD set on my list.
SOS by sisabet - Tis the season for all things Farscape, and this is the best FS vid to hit the web lately. The fact that it's by
sisabet should be all the info you need. John/Aeryn, massively het, painful, and glorious. Fabulous work.
Anyone, Hornblower fan or not, should go over to

Date: 2004-10-26 06:38 pm (UTC)But Bush/Cotard takes things in a very unique direction. It strikes me as one of the few pairings that can stand without the presence of Kennedy exerting such a strong force. It's sort of baggage-free, for me at least, and I think for a lot of the rest of the fandom.
