I finally took the plunge and asked for a crock pot for Christmas this year, so I am now the proud owner of a 4-qt Hamilton Beach slow cooker. I'm hoping it will help me use more fresh local winter vegetables for a change.
Right now I'm making this French Lentil Stew recipe with local veggies. I think I spent about five bucks in total for the main ingredients and I had everything else already on hand. It smells damn good and happily should be ready soon. I love lentils in general, so this seemed a good place to start.
Anyone have any favorite crock pot recipes to share? There are about a million and one sites about slow cooking out there, so it's easy to get lost in all the links. I'm just now starting to wade through
what_a_crock, where I found the lentil stew recipe and am busy bookmarking. With the cold weather, soups and stews definitely sound good, and I've seen recs for beginners to start with "wetter" recipes anyway. I'll eat any meat but pork (bacon is fine, though) and the only veggies I absolutely say no to are onions. I'm attempting to be more adventurous with winter veggies this year.
