Curse you, AT&T!
Dec. 8th, 2009 09:09 pmNov. 28: Ordered a dry loop DSL service from AT&T, just the internet service with no phone line. Did all of this online and made sure I got the confirmation emails. Yay.
Yesterday: Received welcome letter and installation kit (read: disc plus some booklets) in the mail. It said service would be available any time after 6 PM that day. Yay.
Today: Open up brand new modem/router combo and start installation process. Everything spiffy until DSL hookup, then I get the never ending blinking light of doom. Not yay.
Past hour: In email support chat with AT&T person who has bad grammar and is a slow typer. She can't pull up any records with my name, my address, or the order number given to me. I'm not in the system. Somehow, I have all the things I should have but my order supposedly has not been processed or activated or something. I am to call support tomorrow when they're open to check my order status, as I do not have all the necessary info to get it online (dunno, it wants all sorts of weird info that doesn't really work if you don't have a land line. Bastards).
These people are useless, I swear. I want my DSL. I've never had this sort of trouble setting up a connection and network like this. Why on Earth would I have the installation kit if my order hadn't been put into the system? Why the hell would they give me an activation date but not actually have the service available by that time? Bastards.
Seriously, I hate AT&T. But it was either this or Comcast, who charges out the ass for cable internet and does their best to make you bundle it with both phone and cable or else they don't give you any good prices or deals. Then they hide the little fact that if you're not also a cable customer, they charge you for a technician visit to your home in order to install, b/c for some reason they won't do home installation if you don't already have cable. And they hide that in the tiny print of the website FAQ. Sneaky bastards.
*is glad the neighbors don't password protect their wifi signal*
