So, the Golden Globes were announced...
Jan. 14th, 2008 03:29 am...in a press conference. Lots of surprises, I think, and the awards were very spread out instead of any sweeping this year.
I've been to almost no movies this year due to lack of funds, so I haven't seen a single one of the nominees. Lots of things I do want to see, but I suppose I'll have to get to those later. Very surprised Sweeney Todd got Best Picture for the Musical/Comedy category, plus a Best Actor for Johnny Depp. I still really want to see No Country For Old Men, so I'm pleased to see it's doing well for awards.
I'm so out of the loop on musical scores this year, so I have no opinions on the noms or the winner, Atonement.
On to TV:
Best Drama - Mad Men! Everyone's surprised about that, it seems, but I've heard really good things about that show lately. I never seem to be able to catch it, but I might have to do so.
David Duchovny comes out of nowhere to win Best Actor - Drama for Californication. Lots of cable shows winning, as usual, but no Hugh Laurie or House at all this year. Surprising.
Very disappointed that Pushing Daisies didn't walk away with anything. I was expecting 30 Rock to be the winner in that category, but Extras unexpectedly did. I've enjoyed what I saw of Extras, and I do like 30 Rock, but I still think none of the other noms can come close to Pushing Daisies. I wonder how much good the awards will do, though, when it comes to keeping the new shows on the air (if the strike ends in time for that). Without all the publicity for the winners that usually comes with the awards show, it's hard to say how this will affect any current shows.
The list of winners can be found here, for those who are curious.
