A little splash of culture.
May. 14th, 2006 12:01 amWent to see a play tonight at the university, as Helen had been talked into a background non-speaking role (all her roommates are members of the drama society and thus were in the play). "Rockingham's Coat" by Scottish playwright Richard MacSween, about a group of 17th century actors - mostly a comedy with a bit of social commentary mixed in. And quite racy, in a way.
I enjoyed it thoroughly, though at first I wasn't quite sure what to think of it. LOTS of breaking the fourth wall in this one. At the beginning we weren't even allowed to be seated in the theatre yet - we started out in the foyer area where a bar was set up, and that was all part of the play. Some of the action happened there then we were instructed to go in and sit down. We went back in there again between acts and you could interact with the actors while they were in character. Strange at first, but once we got into it, it worked great. All in all, a really cool night out. Not bad for £3.50, and it made me a bit nostaglic for the times I was involved in theatre. *wistful sigh*
I've been doing a ton of bike riding lately, now that it's warmer out. We've had some lovely weather lately, and I need to get fit for summer. Damn these thighs.
Going to the play meant I missed Dr Who tonight, so will have to catch it the next time it airs or download it. Oh well. From the squee on my flist, I assume it's another good ep.
