Driving in the UK
Apr. 29th, 2006 03:06 pmAnyone familiar with the driving laws in the UK? Since mother's visit, I've been considering more and more the possibility of getting some sort of scooter or moped to drive during the summer. Something like this. From the online research I've done, it seems a non-EU visitor to the UK can drive as long as they hold a valid license from their permanent residence. Which I have. I made sure to renew my TN license before I left, and as I'm only here for a year it would fall under the temporary 12-month time limit.
So is that all I'd have to do? I know there's MOT and road tax and such (many of the scooters on eBay already have those so in that case I'd just have to display the tags and it'd be fine, as far as I know). Not sure about registration or anything.
I just really miss my car. I miss having the freedom to go somewhere quickly when I need to. I can't really afford to buy a car while I'm over here, but a moped or scooter would be feasible and I could sell it again when I leave. I need to do more research b/c I don't know very much about them, but the idea of being mobile again...*sigh*
It's mother's fault for putting the idea in my head.
