Behold the power of cheese...
Jan. 24th, 2004 08:51 pmI have cheese! Today Mum and I had lunch at the English Rose again, as we were in the mood for nice comfort food. I had the Potato and Leek soup (which I've never had before, but now like), the plate of assorted cheeses, and Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert (of course *g*). It was just wonderful, and I really can't get enough of their tea. Anyway, this time I asked what the yummy white, crumbly cheese was. Most of the waitresses didn't know, but one of them said it was "Caerphilly", a Welsh cheese (at least, that's what I think she said, as she had rather a thick accent).
So, I dropped by the European Market, and lo and behold, there it was, in a display case I hadn't noticed the last time I'd been in there. The word looked like it would sound like what she said, so I bought some. Not only that, but they had the Wensleydale as well!
I tried both when I got home, and I think the lady might have told me the wrong thing. Both cheese look very similar, but the Caerphilly has a stronger taste, and I think what I actually had at the Rose was the Wensleydale. Tasted just like it, anyway. I got some crackers to go with them, and am a very happy camper. Saves me the trouble of importing the stuff myself :)
In an attempt to have this post be about something other than just cheese...
( Some fic recs... )
Hard to believe, but it's almost time for Lent to start. I need to decide what I'm going to give up this year. We've started pulling out music for the season (some of it is really cool), and Dean wants to do the Fauré Requiem again. I'll have a ton of solos, and I'm actually looking forward to them.
Good grief, it's taken me about two hours to write this post. I keep getting distracted. Fannish magpie, I tell you.
