Quick entry before bed.
Aug. 24th, 2003 10:34 pmWell, this has been an up-and-down kinda day. Morning Eucharist started off well; we had a good guest priest and the anthem went well. The first downhill slide started when we had an extra choir practice afterwards, in preparation for the installation this Wednesday. The practice taxed every last bit of patience I had.
Now, I realize that most of our choir members aren't professionals or have training or anything. So I don't expect them to read music perfectly or get things right on the first try. But I do think the organist/choirmaster should be able to play the music correctly, especially after having the music for so many weeks. I don't know what's up with Dean lately, but his playing has gotten rather...well, not so good. He's sloppy, he can't seem to get the rhythms right, he's screwing up time signatures and stuff. Today was awful. There's this one measure, four-four time, with two sets of eighth-sixteenths and then a set of quarter note triplets. Not too hard; one count each for the eighth-sixteenths, then fit the triplets within the last two beats, making them equal. Yet no one can get this. I've explained it fifty times, and the choir can sing it if he doesn't play, but it's a mess waiting to happen. I don't want this to flop, and it's driving me insane!
*sigh* After the practice from hell, I went over to
cimmerianwillow's house and had a nice relaxing evening. We had lunch at Applebees, and talked for hours about fandom, work, school, and a bit of everything. Lots of fun, and very calming.
Unfortunately my calm got shot to pieces once I got home. The city school central office gave me this huge file of forms to fill out, and since they want it back tomorrow I tried to finish up. Health insurance, life insurance, retirement, tons of stuff I have no clue how to fill out. I did what I could, but I had to leave the rest blank. What a headache.
I think I'll go read a bit more of The Return of Jeeves before bed. Try and restore my calm. Tomorrow is my first real day of work at Arnold, so that should bring back the sunny disposish.
