Yesterday, as a special treat, I took my mum out to lunch in the Bluff View Arts District. We went to Tony's, had good Italian food, dropped by the gallery to poke fun at the modern art (they do have some nice things, so it's not *all* weird), and topped it off with dessert (well, she had some, I didn't) at Rembrandt's Coffee House. For once it wasn't raining, and we had a nice afternoon all around.
Also dropped by the Fresh Market to get some more shortbread Highlanders (best. shortbread. ever.) and that oatnut bread I like. Discovered, to my delight, that if I call ahead, the butchers there will separate the suet out for me, instead of bunging it into the mix with the turkey stuff, and sell it to me. Now I can try making some of the puddings in my Patrick O'Brian companion cookbook - Lobscouse and Spotted Dog. I think I'll get a pound of suet so I can try both the jam roly-poly and the spotted dog. All I need now is to find rose water for the custard sauce.
Finished Right Ho, Jeeves, which leaves me with no Wodehouse to read at the moment. I miss Bertie already, dash it. I'm checking eBay for more books, but I'm not sure I can wait that long. I'm such an impatient blighter. This, naturally, causes constant internal warfare between my desire for instant gratification and my unwillingness to pay so much for new books.
I suppose I could just go finish the myriad other books I'm in the middle of reading. I can think of five just off the top of my head, but, dash it all, I want my Bertie and Jeeves. I shall pout over this.
In other fannish news, Diana Williams has a new vid that knocked my socks off. Believe it or not, it's a Sherlock Holmes/Watson vid! No, seriously. She uses the Jeremy Brett/David Burke series, set to the Sister Hazel song "Your Mistake". It's really lovely - the clip choices work very well with the song and makes me want to go hunt down copies of the episodes. I just sat there and grinned; I adore the Holmes stories and was thrilled to find a downloadable vid for this fandom. I'm not posting the link here (due to all the recent kerfluffles re vids), but drop me a line if you'd like the link to her site.
Well, errands to run, so I must be off. Toodle-pip.
