Whoa. Yeah, so, this may have been my favorite ep so far this season. It certainly got the biggest emotional reaction from me.
Honestly, I had no idea I was that attached to the Prometheus. But damn if I didn't get teary when it blew up. And Colonel Pendergast! Omg, he went down with his ship and saved everyone and just...*sniff* Big damn heroes. But slightly stupid ones, b/c they so went into this one nearly blind, with no idea of what sort of weapon it was but still so confident they could easily take it out. And it bit them on the ass, big time.
I love how much of a team episode it was, even if they were separated for most of it. Everyone contributed, everyone got their moment to save the day even though it all crumpled in the end.
I liked seeing Jarrod again; he and Daniel always had a good vibe together (and I never did believe for one moment that Daniel ever did anything with the wife, despite her crush on him) and I really hope he's not dead.
Hugs! There were hugs. I loved Teal'c's reaction to seeing Sam alive after all.
Daniel's quiet, solitary grief in the cell was just right. MS has always been pretty consistent with that, and this took me back to Daniel sitting alone in the infirmary in the dark after Janet's death.
Jarrod: "Do you ever give up?"
Daniel: "Not until I’m dead. And sometimes, not even then."
Best. Daniel line. ever. Nothing like poking a little existential fun at oneself.
Nice to see more Daniel and Cameron interaction at the end, though really, beer in a can? Daniel looked at it like he was disgusted. Mitchell has even worse taste in beer than Jack, and that's saying something. At least Jack bought the bottled stuff. Though maybe Mitchell's heard about what a light weight Daniel is and this is his attempt to bring something weaker so Daniel can have more than one before he starts molesting innocent pieces of fruit.
So, yeah, a "rough day" indeed. Totally atypical for SG-1, and I loved it. More like this, please.
Btw, I thought the name "Ethon" sounded familiar and sure enough, Wikipedia tells me Ethon was the name of the eagle that ate the liver of Prometheus every day after it grew back. The Greek mythology geek in me is squeeing loudly even while it's grieving over the Prommie.
ETA: Omg, almost forgot. Ernie Hudson! Winston was on Stargate! How the hell are we getting all these people these days? Was RDA just that expensive or something and now they have all this extra cash lying around for the casting department? Whatever it is, I like it, please keep it up.
