Merlin 4x05

I LOVE THIS SHOW MORE AND MORE EVERY WEEK NOW.

Seriously, that was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was very sorry to see Arthur take Uncle Evil's shitty advice and stoop to killing someone in cold blood, but despite it being a very hard lesson to learn he learned it quickly. Here's hoping we'll see him pushing back again Agravaine now. Really, his "council" should just consist of Merlin and his inner sanctum of knights at this point.

I really love how despite Arthur's attempt at pulling away to be all I Stand Alone, it doesn't last long. His little wistful look out of the tent at Merlin tugged at my heart, and then all it took was a nudge from Merlin and knights marched right in there to tell Arthur how is is, that he's not alone at all. Elyan is proving to be very good with words when it comes to reassuring Arthur, which I like. The knights didn't get much else to do this week, but those little moments were great. Loved how they all wanted to be the champion for Arthur and how on edge they looked during the fight.

Of course at the end of the day there is no one Arthur trusts more than Merlin. They must be making up for all those "in another life, we could've been friends" conversations, b/c lately Arthur has been calling Merlin "friend" a LOT. Even old friend, which they're too young to be using. Theirs is a king/servant relationship like no other and I ♥ it so much. Though Merlin, you really can do better than "cabbagehead", but you looked rather hot dressed as a knight so I'll forgive you.

Linsday Duncan was awesome as usual and helped make up for the complete lack of women last week. Her costuming was pretty awesome too, and considering the weather out right now I'm coveting those furs and wraps she was wearing. I liked the scenes she had with Morgana as well. It was damn time someone pointed out to Morgana how consumed with vengeance she is and how she's letting it blind her just like Uther was blinded with his hatred of magic. I also like that it came from another woman in power rather than from a man.

Not sure what to think of the whole "share the bed" scene. On one hand, all that focus on Merlin turning back the covers and going on about how it could be their last night to sleep in a real bed was very, very suggestive. On the other hand, Arthur turned that down pretty flat. It doesn't count as throwing a bone to the slashers if they yank it back and say nevermind, see, Arthur doesn't REALLY think of Merlin in that way. :P

Oh well, it's hard to care in the face of that trailer for next week. I am getting one of my very favorite tropes EVER next week and I just know it's gonna be awesome. YAY!

Btw, this new entry page is screwing up for me every damn time I try to post. If just one little tag is wrong it messes up the entire text and I pretty much have to retype it. Stop messing with stuff, LJ!

eeeeeeeeeee every time I see a post pop up this week, I almost flail myself off the couch! :D

The knights didn't get much else to do this week, but those little moments were great.

It's true. There's so many of them that there isn't always a lot for the show to do with them, but I must say, the bits they *do* get are going spectacularly well. :D

How sad is it that someone like Arthur has so few people close to him in his life that someone he's known only three years is an old friend, in his mind?? That actually killed me. I mean, Arthur has had no one. The knights...most of them are new around there. And the ones that weren't (Leon) were not his friends; they were his father's knights, and therefore his protectors or soldiers or whatever, and it's different. The show has actually done a surprisingly excellent job of highlighting what that could actually mean to Arthur.

It doesn't count as throwing a bone to the slashers if they yank it back and say nevermind, see, Arthur doesn't REALLY think of Merlin in that way. :P

STILL IGNORING THAT PART LALALA. :D

eta fixed typo OMG typing too fast!

Me too! This show is keeping me afloat, NEGL.

Good point about the knights! He probably still doesn't know Percival or Gwaine very well yet, and Elyan is pretty new to him as well. We haven't seen those "frat boy" type buddies of his since the pilot, really, and they seem to lose knights on a regular basis so Arthur must not be all that close with most of them. Did you see the trailer for next week? Arthur comes right out and says Merlin is the only one he can really trust!! I so can't wait.
