Countdown...

Four days until mother gets here.

Three full days to write at least a rough draft of this damn lit review so I can send it to my supervisor for critique in time to get it back and have a few days to tweak any rough patches after mum's gone.

I have less than 1,000 words so far. We've been given a usual range of 5,000-10,000, and I have a feeling it's going to be closer to 10,000. SO far to go.

However, I have read over 100 journal articles, ended up ordering one book I couldn't get anywhere else, and have (mostly) narrowed it down to the 50 or so references that are acceptable for this sort of review. I have a rough outline in my head about how I'm going to procede. I know this stuff. I just have to write it down.

Argh. This is going to be a hellish three days. Fannish activity will likely cease (except the occasional pornish distraction to help me cope), so catch you guys on the flip side.

GIP b/c it's so damn funny. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] iconzicons.

Good luck! I've totally been in the same boat for the past several days, and the end just keeps getting further and further away...

What's yours about? I was assuming it was a thesis type thing since you're graduating soon.

Mine's actually just a paper for one class (Practice & Theory of History; required for my History minor). Granted, it's a significant portion of the grade for that class, but not as huge and graudation-making as comps for my English major. Anyway, it's...well, it's currently playing thesis-in-a-haystack, but nominally, it's about what measures the TVA took in the 1930s and 40s to ensure fair treatment to those whose land they bought to impound reservoirs in East TN, and whether these measures really were fair. So far, I've come up with a fairly resounding "yes," with some exceptions for Norris Reservoir, which makes for a pretty boring paper, actually. *shrug*

Sounds pretty interesting to me, but then, I'm from the TN Valley area :)

Technically, Nashville is in the Valley as well (at any rate, we get TVA power), which did make it more interesting to me at first, but it quickly got bogged down in "fee simple purchase" and "soil sample fifty million and twelve revealed..." and just...ugh. As it currently stands, the paper is like, "The TVA didn't do too badly at not screwing over the people they bought land from for their reservoirs. Good for them!" Which...boring. Bah.

You'll do great. I'll send good vibes to you. Seems we are all under the gun this week. I'm doing a presentation to the city council executive comitee tomorrow night. Tomorrow is going to be non stop adrenalin.

{{{Chantal}}} Thanks, sis. Good luck to you, too. I'm sure you'll do great on your presentation!

Get writing girl

Get the rough draft outta yer head and onto the paper. I'm sure it'll be fine, but it'll be one less thing to worry about.

It's massively slow going so far. This is gonna take ages, I think. *kicks it*

Give yourself a couple of hours to just work on it without any breaks or procrastinating.

Wishing you all the best. I know from experience that it isn't easy to get a draft done in a short amount of time but I'm sure that you will do well and the supervisor's comments will be helpful.

Thanks. At the rate it's going, I'm not sure I'll make my self-imposed deadline, but I'll have something to show him by Thursday. Maybe not the entire thing, but something.

I'm a bit partial to the Random Vin Diesel Facts (http://www.4q.cc/index.php?pid=fact&person=vin), myself...

[identity profile] lauraspeak.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh! This was the second one I got and I just have to share it with you:

In 1972, a crack commando was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit. He promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no-one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire Vin Diesel.

[identity profile] castalianspring.livejournal.com 2006-04-11 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. Points for the A-Team ref. The Vin Diesel ones are good, too, but there's just something inherently funny about Chuck Norris.
