Sometimes it does pay to complain.
Growing up, my mother always told me, in true Southern vernacular, that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Now, mum is polite to a fault, but she was right about the need for occasional squeakiness.
I've mentioned my ongoing loan problems, which will hopefully be at an end this week. I finally found a bank which will work with me, and I've applied online for their international student account. All I have to do now is wait for the acceptance papers to come, then pop down to the bank with the checks and various bits of paper that prove my identity, then set up a direct debit to pay the school.
The only hitch was going to be a letter I received from the school last week, telling me I had to pay by November 18th or be charged a 30 pound administration fee. Considering all the attempts I had made to pay my fees, not to mention the hideously unhelpful staff at the finance office, the idea of being penalized for late payment rankled more than a bit. So I sent off an email to the lady in charge, explaining my situation and how I felt I'd received less-than-admirable assistance from the school. I was prepared to be as squeaky as possible, b/c a school which deals with so many international students should be a bit more on the ball when it comes to funds that may be in foreign currency, especially from the US, where this kind of Stafford Loan is pretty standard and they'd already been in contact with the loan people when they processed my loan request in the first place. Someone at that point should have done their job and made a note of what form the money would be in and whether or not it would be a problem.
I got a short reply today, saying all extra fees would be removed from my account. Still waiting on the bank to finish opening my account, but at least my fees will be paid by next week at the latest. They'll have to charge me about 20 pounds or so for the currency exchange, and I'm losing a lot in the exchange thanks to the dollar being so damn weak at the moment, but there's nothing I can do about that. I just want this over and done with so I can spend my time worrying about more important things.

cimmerianwillow, just catching up and bitching and doing our usual thing. It cheered me up considerably. *big smooches to Het*
I'm sure everyone has heard the various casting spoilers for SG-1 by now. I know I'm pleased as punch about them. Yay, Claudia!!
Also, GIP for me finally getting around to making an icon for my latest favorite tv boyfriend.

Anywho, yes, I am a Lacuna Coil fan. I was randomly rec'd to them as an "Italian Evanescence" but with a male singer as well, however, I like them better than Evanescence. I have two of their CD's: Comalies (which has the song "Unspoken") and Unleashed Memories and somehow I got a special edition of Unleashed Memories with five bonus tracks.
I don't know what the situation with international package sending is like, but I could send you a burned copy if it's not too complicated.

Hm, I'll have to look into them. So far international mail seems to be crap here, as things are taking weeks and weeks to get here (I still haven't gotten your postcard, sorry to say). I can download some of their stuff, though. It'll be much quicker :)
