Dr Who Christmas - End of Time part Two
Well, that wasn't as much of a hot mess as the first part.
Doctor/Master is pretty much canon at this point, y/y? Seriously, the whole time with the gun and the "it's me or the human race and also practically the universe" I was thinking "and this is a hard decision WHY exactly?", but the Doctor obviously found it very difficult. Oy.
Not sure I like Rusty's explanation for why the Time Lords got sealed in the not-bubble time lock. Meh. I haven't seen enough of Old School Who in recent years to remember who Rassilon really is, but if he was always that much of a dick then Timothy Dalton did his job well.
As big of a plot device as the lady in white was, it was a big cop-out not to tell us who she was. Shame, Rusty.
The end was self-indulgent but I didn't mind it too much this time around. I was happy to see Martha and Mickey (And wow, she didn't marry the doctor guy after all! I like this better, I think.), and Sarah Jane and Luke, and Jack drowning his sorrows. But as much as I like Alonso, it's kinda annoying to hint that all Jack needs to be better after the clusterfrak of CoE and the loss of Ianto is to have a quick shag with another pretty boy. Rose I tolerated, as there wasn't anything overtly horrible about her scene this time. Just a bit of pity for how her story will turn out.
Wilf was ace. The best scenes of the entire two-parter were when he and Ten just talked. The other best scenes were when Tennant and Simm were allowed to just be as slashy as they wanted and chew some scenery.
Still pissed about Donna. Having a safety valve or reset button or whatever on her brain still doesn't make it better. Getting married doesn't make it better. Hitting the lottery (and how is this from Donna's dad? What?) doesn't make it better. As happy as I was to see her on screen again, it felt like a waste.
Ten not wanting to go made me tear up a little. Damn you, Tennant, for being a damn good actor. You'll probably make me cry in the Confidential as well.
I shall watch next season and try to like Eleven, but damn. I'm going to be one of THOSE fans right now and just mope about missing Ten.
On the bright side, no more Rusty. Huzzah.
