*nod* It's nothing new to get a homosexual relationship on TV and then see half of the pairing die. Nothing new at all. RTD wants to be Joss Whedon far too badly.
But not only do we have the cultural equivalent of sweeping 'teh gay' under the rug (esp. by emphatically coding one half of the partner ship in feminine terms -- all the convos about feelings that Ianto invoked, as well as the little grace notes like doing the shopping -- and then killing that half of the partnership), but I believe we also have the Torchwood equivalent of women in refrigerators (http://www.unheardtaunts.com/wir/) -- a female character introduced solely to kill off and thus add to the male protagonist's motivation.
*sigh* It makes me upset to see Gwen bashing so much in the TW fandom. B/c even though she could be difficult to like, especially in the 1st season, I liked Gwen. And she kicked major ass in this season.

I don't think RTD is going to get as good a reception at ComicCon as he probably thinks he will.
