TV Round-up

It feels like I've watched a lot of TV this week. Lots of spoilers under the cuts.

Still the best new thing on television, hands down. The aunts were back this week, which added to all the fun, and we got a new intriguing character with the herbal anti-depressants salesman. He was fab, and I'm looking forward to further interaction between him and Olive, who I'm loving more and more each week. Seriously, Kristin Chenoweth is the most adorable thing ever.

Emerson is just as adorable plus snarky as hell, and so far is possibly my favorite on the series. I was glad he forced the issue about Ned letting the funeral director die - that was something that needed to be out in the open and not dragged out all season, so I'm pleased they had Ned and Chuck talk about it and admit he did it on purpose. I also enjoyed the scene between him and the morgue guy - that's a cute possible friendship I'd like to see develop.

I found Chuck a wee bit annoying in the beginning of the episode, and was very much commiserating with Emerson about her involvement in their little enterprise especially when she nearly screwed up the minute yet again, but then she made me love her all over again with her "Kick, Pooh, kick!" and how she sent all the stolen heirlooms back to the families.

Although I'm still loving the bright color scheme, I do wish they'd put Chuck and Olive in something other than short dresses that show a ton of cleavage. I honestly thought Chuck was prettiest at the end, with no makeup wearing pajamas.

The saran wrap kiss was the cutest thing ever. Really.

Also cute is the continual placement of all things knitted in Emerson's office. He even knitted a cover for his box of tissues. I love that more than I can say.

*sigh* As for the Asian Southerner, I'm of two minds about it. On the one hand, I LOVE that they gave us an Asian character born and raised in the South and proud of that heritage. However, his accent was pretty bad. Seriously, we don't say "sword" like that in Tennessee. We don't. And they couldn't decide between "grandpappy" (which I have never heard anyone actually use here) and "grandpa" (which is much more common). I also didn't appreciate the implication that the only reason his ancestor would have gone south to settle instead of north must have been due to heat stroke. Thanks a lot, there.

Biggest pet peeve - there is no place this side of the Mason-Dixon that pronouncing it "murFREESboro" is acceptable. For shame.

Most of my current fannish squee is all tied up in this show, despite my few small quibbles. Love it!

This week's SGA was better than last week despite the horribly dull title, but it lost me towards the ending. Once I had to suffer two Sheppards, my attention wandered and I got bored. That fight went on way too long. I was less than moved by the loss of the psychiatrist, as we hadn't really seen her much lately and I was never that enamored of her in the first place. However, she did have some good scenes with Teyla and I'll miss that. Teyla's lost all her girl friends recently.

Sam on the other hand is bonding with Keller, who I'm liking more and more despite her being ridiculously young for her position. More of this would be nice.

I was greatly amused that Rodney's worst fear is being eaten by a whale. Though, one would think that would've come up before now, what with his past fascination with the whale-like creatures on whatever we're calling the first Atlantis planet now.

Next week looks awful. When is it Teyla's turn for a feature episode?

Short thoughts on misc tv:

Chuck - I'm still tuning in but the show is only barely holding my interest. I like Chuck himself well enough, and having Adam Baldwin on my tv screen is always nice, but Morgan is hugely annoying and the writing is a bit uneven. The sister is okay even though I hated the actress on Everwood, and Sarah is pretty cool but I hate hate hate how they dress her. I dunno, I'll give it another few weeks.

NCIS - I keep seeing future visions of Ziva/Tony, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Ducky was great this week, and it was strange seeing Tori Higginson here instead of on SGA. I'm curious to see where this season will go, especially now that La Grenouille is dead. Perhaps McGee's hair will keep growing and take over the city.

Boston Legal - I only catch this show sporadically, but I read the blurb about this week's plotline involving the gay marine general, and just had to tune in. I was very impressed by their handling of it. Alan and Denny are still adorable, Candice Bergen kicks ass, and I enjoy seeing older actors on telly for a change.

Viva Laughlin - Okay, I gave this a shot, but I don't think it will be for me. It's not the format, though I know there's going to be a lot of people saying that anyone who doesn't like this show just doesn't get the format. I haven't seen the UK original, but I hope the characters in it are more likable. The main character in the US version was so unlikable to me that I don't think I can watch next week. When I compare how this show is using music (lots of bad pop music, ugh) and how Pushing Daisies used it with Kristin Chenoweth, I'll take PD no contest.

I keep trying with Journeyman and though I love Kevin McKidd I'm having trouble getting into the show. Not sure what it is. One show I really want to see more of is Life, but so far I'm only catching bits and pieces. Must remedy that.

I need a Pushing Daisies icon.
