Triumph!

Well, hand me a chef's hat, because the meal went over quite well :) This has been a great learning experience, and now I'm not so worried about starving or living on pasta and take-out when I'm on my own.

We ended up having the duck (stuffed with apples, potatoes, and onions; and basted with consommé and cooking sherry), roasted yams, creamed corn, rice, and bread I picked up from the Macaroni Grill. Also, I learned to make gravy, which mum helped me make from the drippings and was rather good. It was fun, and I'm glad it turned out well, but I never realized what a lot of work cooking is. It makes one wish one had an Anatole to do this on an everyday basis.

I didn't have any room for dessert, which is probably a good thing since the ice cream social is tomorrow. I practiced Kathleen Mavourneen today with Doug at the piano, and thus am a trifle less nervous about it. Should be fun.

Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] declineandfall, [livejournal.com profile] dreamplum, and [livejournal.com profile] kathlaw! Pull up a c. and make yourselves comfy.

Note to Wodehouse fans: Those of us who were planning to chat about Thank You, Jeeves have finished the book now, so when is a good time to set up the chat? [livejournal.com profile] sensefille? [livejournal.com profile] viola_cesario? [livejournal.com profile] rosabuddatchery? I'm looking forward to gushing and debating :)
