Sci-Fi Friday thoughts.
Ok, I'll admit to being surprised by the teaser. Didn't see that coming at all, and I laughed my ass off. Also, am a dork and was pleased to see not-really!Major Davis in the previouslies.
Ok, as much as I like Mitchell being paired with Teal'c for these things, what's his purpose for tagging along? It seems odd for Daniel to go play covert ops with Sam when there's diplomatic stuff to be done. Still, Mitchell and Teal'c are cute, so I'll handwave it.
Plus, Earthbound Daniel does mean civvies. Love the reappearance of the leather bomber jacket from Icon. Still, I bet Daniel's like "what, I gave up the Pegasus Galaxy for this?"
Once again, do none of these people find it odd that the Air Force is investigating a missing person case? Oy.
If we can't have Vala, giving us Ba'al (and Ba'al in civvies w/o voice modulation, to boot) is a nice start at making up for her loss. I really buy that Ba'al, deposed from System Lord-hood, would set himself up on Earth with a cushy corporation surrounded by all the amenities. He has excellent taste in suits.
Garek is kind of evil, or at least revenge-crazed.
Jaffa really suck at covert ops. You'd think they'd try to blend in somehow, like leave the armor at home for a start. Though I do admit, having one stick his staff weapon in the face of Solitaire Playing Guy was amusing.
"It's either Jaffa or KISS is back on tour." *snerk*
...I have to agree with Ba'al. There is an alarming lack of privacy here.
Daniel mentioned Kerry Johnson, that chick with the Mary Steenburgen hair Jack was keen on for a while.
Ok, the patch scene? Much love. Interesting how he didn't even ask Daniel, waited for the nod from Sam, and then held it out to Teal'c like a proffered love token. Uber cute.
Sam's hair still looks like shite, and that long coat isn't at all flattering on her, even though I'd usually like that sort of outfit.
I like that they mentioned Cassie. Even though it's been seasons since Janet died and this is the first mention of it.
Not exactly single? Pfft. Whatever. Classic brush-off for a guy you don't want making any advances, IMO. Sam, you're a Lt Colonel now, you can actually come out and say you're not interested.
Can't be in two places at once? Haven't learned much these last 9 years, have you guys?
Ok, so did Ba'al start work on that building right when he got to Earth, b/c it usually takes at least those 9 months or more to put up a building that size. No way it got built in one month, so I assume that guy meant it was just finished one month ago.
I was quite put out that they'd apparently killed Ba'al in such a quick execution scene, then they pulled out the clones and I was happy again. Very happy. So many Ba'als in one room? Talk about fantasy material. The shorts and tank top just about killed me. Though I do have one question about the cloning - did they clone the symbiotes, too? B/c dead!Ba'al's eyes glowed and he had the Goa'uld voice.
Finally, a Mitchell-centric ep next week. About damn time.
Jewel Staite ep, yay!
The opening reminded me of old-school Dracula, what with the villagers being all "omg don't go out after dark!". Wraith as the children of the night, and all that.
McKay really is a kid magnet. And what a cute kid, too.
Heh. Shep slapping McKay upside the head was amusing.
Ok, this is one reason I don't think I could get along with McKay as a scientist - his statement about not thinking what the guy what doing in his cave could qualify as science. IMO, that's some of the purest science right there - someone using their own knowledge of nature and the things around them to discover something, sometimes purely by accident. Like the naturalists of old who just went out and observed nature instead of spending all their time cooped up in some university poring over books telling them what nature was like.
Not surprised Carson has been toying with something like this for a while, but I'm wondering if this is at all related to what he was working on with the Hoffans. It doesn't sound plausible at all, though, so I'm also not surprised it hasn't been too successful in the lab. And their explanation of how the Wraith evolved, with the bug taking on characteristics of its prey, hurts me. Natural selection so doesn't work that way, bitches.
*happies* And now Beckett and McKay are paired up for the rest of the ep. *snickers* And Rodney is so going to pester him.
I knew the father's serum thing was too good to be true, and I'm glad it was. Felt sorry for the poor girl, having to hide something like that from her dad for so many years. This also says some interesting things about Wraith society - if a Wraith raised by a human can repress certain violent instincts, if not the biological need to feed on humans, and form relationships and attachments, how much of their behavior is learned rather than innate?
Carson's not a bad shot. Nice. Rodney patting his chest amused me, as did Carson's reassuring arm pat.
One thing I didn't see coming was the reveal that Ellia's (sp?) father was the head villager's son. Dude, letting her feed off him like that? And then she ends up killing him in the end. You wouldn't get this kind of ending from SG-1.
...I'm really getting tired of Sheppard. His little "you stay here, I'll do it" brand of so-called heroics aren't smart, and how much do I love Teyla for telling Ronon that they get to choose when to disregard Shep's orders. *loves Teyla*
I'm still surprised they actually went as far as to kill her outright. Practical, yes, but surprising for tv.
Mm, strings. I'm so in love with the music from this show. So orchestral. Classical. The bobbing strings fit perfectly with the rain.
That book is going to be unreadable by the time they're finished, though. Ouch.
I like that Adama is no longer discounting Roslin's visions and how much they are leading what she and her followers are doing. Any military leader knows it's advantageous to try and think like your opposition, or perhaps a hunter thinking like the hunted is the better analogy.
Heh. Boomer's crack that the Cylons know more about the religion of the 12 Tribes amused me b/c it's so true. They're getting defensive about it now, but it does seem like something most of the people only have a vague knowledge of, like a section of history no one paid much attention to in school.
Caprica!Boomer's going to give birth in the cell? Heh. It amuses me that Baltar is still calling it mythical. For all Six's insistance that the child is theirs, I have to wonder if the original plan was for Six and Baltar to have the kid, then things got messed up when Baltar got rescued and they had to switch to Helo and Boomer. Six is certainly bitter about it, anyway.
...they've put her in so many form-fitting dresses and now practically nothing, but Six was never so attractive as she is in that casual jogging type outfit with grey hoodie.
So there's really no chip. Interesting. Guess Baltar really has gone crackers.
I'm surprised Tyrol is willing to go back down to Kobol, after the last time. And Billy's going, too! Roslin told Adama she thought Billy would be president one day? Aw. *snickers* "Adar was a moron." Heh.
So this Sharon will have all the memories of being with Tyrol, even though she's in love with Helo. Sorry to use the word again, but this should be interesting. Helo's dumb but cute with his "I like weird." Nice scene with them just quietly talking while Lee and Kara bond under their own tree cleaning weapons, and Zarek and his boytoy plot under theirs.
*dies laughing at Baltar's little MRI scene*
Lee's face when he ends up pointing his gun at Daddy Adama - nice. Jamie does such great acting with his eyes. Then the hug. *happy sigh* Not everything is fixed just like that, of course, but it's a good start. And we get the Celtic music of familial love.
Roslin's reaction to seeing Billy again made me happy. I really think he's one of the few she would think twice about screwing over or sacrificing on this quest to find Earth.
Adama, stop having flashbacks, and stop choking Boomer. Right now. See? Getting mad like that will end up giving you a heart attack.
Aw, Roslin and Adama made up. I don't think they can sex, though, not in his condition.
*is broken by Caprica!Boomer hugging Tyrol* I'm so glad he let her hug him, even awkward as it was. Poor Chief, having to deal with another Boomer who is obviously devoted to Helo.
Not at all surprised Boomer double-crossed Zarek's minion, and I liked her little speech to Adama. Quite the effective demonstration.
Damn, could they have made Zarek and his minion any more slashy? All that plotting just so Zarek could "get his due"? The matching leather jackets were nice, too ;P
Loved the constellations and the Lagoon Nebula. Beautiful scene, and I liked Starbuck's giddy reverence for where they were standing.
Damn, that cell's getting used after all. Not sure if I'm irriated with Adama for that or proud of him for taking the precaution.
Next week - Xena! *g* With her own accent, it seems.
