Sci-Fi Friday!!

The Ori version of the rings are uber shiny. I like them. The Priors, though, look kinda like zombie monks.

Landry was a bit cranky during that first briefing. Ok, more than a bit. Dr Lexa had legitimate concerns, so there was really no reason for him to raise his voice to her. Are the writers keeping their connection ambiguous on purpose or what? It's about time they reveal the father-daughter thing, oy.

CB makes that dress look fab. Quite a talent. Love the apple throw-back, too.

Daniel's musings on the changing symbolism of fire were quite interesting. The Ori seem to be a hodgepodge of different religious ideas plus some Goa'uld crazy, but still, possible parallels to parts of Christianity (the Crusades come to mind, as well as modern fundamentalists) bug me a bit. It's a fine line they're walking, but so far it's going ok. The whole thing really is just Ancient philosophy corrupted by power and turned on its head. Loved Daniel's cynical "Been down this road before" crack, b/c yeah, we've heard the schpiel, just in different terms and without the death by fire. At least the Ancients would just ignore you as a peon if you didn't accept their path, not condemn you as irrevocably evil and try to stomp you like a bug.

I laughed so hard when Daniel asked to speak to one of the Ori and was told sure, then the Prior just told him "speak and they shall listen" - Daniel got that look on his face again, and the little "ohh..." noise he made was icing on the cake.

Louis Gossett, Jr! Oscar winner on my show! Geez, the guest stars lately just boggle.

...ok, dude getting water from a rock. Crib from Moses much? *rolls eyes*

*feels sorry for Mitchell at having to attend the type of church he talks about*

OMG Julian Sands! What a great casting choice for such a creepy villians with powers.

Daniel's speech about what he believes was just so...Daniel. I love that he's all "ok, this is what I believe and there's no way you can make me change my mind so STFU". It's that conviction that makes me adore him so. Ok, the boots help, too.

Landry's pronunciation of Goa'uld sucks ass.

If the Jaffa are suddenly going to try policing the galaxy against anyone who might preach about any and all religions, they're going to be kept pretty damn busy.

"I don't think enlightenment means what they think it means." Vala gets extra points for the Princess Bride pseudo-reference!

I can tell I'm going to get tired of all the "Hallowed are the Ori"s. Argh.

These Priors have Darth Vader powers! Choking, throwing people around without touching them, etc. Definitely the Dark Side of the Force.

Yay for Mitchell and his bright idea of whoosing the alien device. And he called Walter by his first name, too. S'cute. He and Teal'c are still a good team, and I look forward to their interactions this season.

Ok, as happy as I am that Daniel and Vala are back and ok and not crispy critters, how much does it suck for that young couple to jump back into their bodies only seconds before getting burned to death. There's going to be guilt once Daniel realizes that, b/c I doubt he'd want to have been saved when it means someone else will take his place. Lots of this type of dark theme, death and injustice in this arc of episodes. And now we'll have a season full of the Ori's little version of the Crusades. Which does sort of tie into the King Arthur legend in a way, so maybe we're not done with that little storyline either.

So is Mitchell supposed to be from the South? Or just his grandma. The accent does slip in occasionally, and then I get Crichton flashbacks. Though, really, Southerners aren't the only ones who use the word "reckon". It's a very old word, for crying out loud. To reckon is a perfectly nice verb that even Shakespeare used.

*squees so loudly at Jack coming to see Daniel, even though RDA was a bit...off, again* Of course he's not sorry Daniel missed his ship. And of course Daniel wouldn't admit being scared to anyone else. And the next bit, so priceless:

D: I'm scared.
J: ...I'm hungry.
D: *looks at Jack like he just solved all the problems of the universe*
J&D: *go on a date*

It was perfect. Probably our last J/D scene, and it was perfect.

Also perfect is the idea that Teal'c has been counting the number of times Jack has saved the world. And has told Mitchell all about it.

And we get more Vala next week! Can it get much better than this??

I think my favorite bit is actually the beginning sequence with Major Lorne and the botanist guy. They're quite the background OTP. ;) There was even touching.

I still miss Ford, but really, he's got such an interesting storyline now. I'm looking forward to seeing where it will go, and if he'll still think it's such a good thing down the line.

Ok, Rodney has a legitimate complaint about the UV radiation thing. Keeping a tally of his radiation exposure is a bit extreme, but then, he has been exposed a bit more than your average person. Even so, the whining did get to be a bit much. Not so much that I'm screaming character assassination or anything, but yeah, a bit much. I do want to get some of that SPF 100, though. *is uber-fair, omg*

I really like the dramatic music when they zoom in on the Puddle Jumper, even though it does remind me a bit of the PotC soundtrack. They didn't get anyone associated with Media Ventures, did they? *g*

Rodney's lack of social skills continue to amuse. It's not that he doesn't care about Ford, it's that he really has no idea what to say.

So far Ronon seems ok. The acting wasn't as bad as I feared, and his storyline is interesting. Nifty weapons, too. He seems an untrustworthy ally, though, rather like Jayne. Guess he gets to be the public relations specialist.

*dies at Sheppard's little misunderstanding of what Teyla was doing*

There's no way Rodney could have fired that gun with those huge gloves anyway. Geez.

I like that Ford has still retained some of his bouncy enthusiasm despite the crazy. The little moments like when he heard about Shep's promotion, those were cute. Then he'd go all crazy again, of course, but there were cute bits in between. Then the bits where he was scared and lonely, poor thing.

You know, with Ronan added to the show, this makes three major characters of color, plus the additional background characters we see.

*dies so much at the Androcles and the Lion reference* "Who are you in this retelling, the Romans?" Hee. Love seeing Carson off-world like this. And in the black uniform to boot!

You know, for all that people are complaining about how McKay is supposedly portrayed as inept at all things military, for him to aim at Ford's arm and actually hit him there speaks of some skill with a pistol. So come on, let's not complain too much.

And, for those of you who have not yet seen Nothing, this episode gives you ample proof that David Hewlett screams like a girl. *loves his reaction to being strung upside down by that trap* Really, I think the writers are giving us references to every possible DH movie ever. We already got our Cube reference with the whole prime/not-prime thing, and now this. We can all play the Spot the Hewlett Movie Reference game!

You know, even with this so-called "reduced role", Ford is getting more screen time than ever, complete with nifty fight sequences. I love it. Though I still can't believe he actually ran into that Wraith beam.

Caldwell's just there to bust Shep's balls at every turn, isn't he? It's a very Skinner type role, heh.

Next week looks like more of an into for Ronon Dex, but then we get Duet the next week! Woohoo!

I love the plotline of the downed crew on Kobol a little too much, I think, b/c I could happily watch an entire season of this.

Tigh is such a sucky commander. Poor administrative skills, poor communication skills, poor public relations skills, the list goes on. You could just see the bridge crew boggling at him.

Roslin's scream startled the hell out of me. Geez, she's got some lungs on her. Mary McDonnell did a great job with the withdrawal effects.

All those sashes and things the Quorum of Twelve wear are dorky beyond belief.

Crashdown is really very nuts. Sure, to a military guy I can see how disabling the launcher to save the rescue party would seem like the thing to do, but when you have no actual fully trained soldiers and you refuse to listen to the only one there with common sense? No way. Big props to Tyrol for staying calm and not just decking the SOB, though I wouldn't have blamed him if he had. *found him so very hot when telling Baltar to sit down and shut up*

Ugh, Ellen + booze = a very unlikeable Tigh. When do we get rid of her?

You know, much of the Kobol team sequences remind me of Band of Brothers at times. I felt that same type of tension during the attack scene, to the point where I was all "omg, no more!!". I was honestly unsure of whether or not they'd have Crashdown shoot Cally, and I didn't have much time for relief that he didn't (gives Baltar so much love for that) before I was having to worry over Chief Tyrol. I was so sure he was toast (toast by the toasters, heh), b/c he was being all heroic and they were playing the Music of Sad Self-Sacrifice and then it was over and he was ok but my heart was still pounding like a mad, pounding thing. Geez. I think it's official - Tyrol is now my favorite character, or at least close to it.

So killing is what makes a man. Thanks, Six. Good to know.

I really want to smack that doctor for smoking so close to a patient and medical equipment, plastic screen or no.

Also want to smack Tigh for declaring martial law. This can't end well, and from the look of next week's ep, it won't.

The music is once again superb. The BSG composers make such good use of drums. *wants soundtrack, omg*

You know, I love how much great info has been collected at the BSG Wikipedia, but geez, could they have chosen a color scheme any harder on the eyes? I know it matches the pretty seal, but omg, the retinal pain.
