I have a small request of all you discerning icon fans out there. I've been wanting to do some sort of Welsh icon, and here is the fruit of my labors.

It's a manip of a map of Wales, the Welsh flag, and a Welsh sailing ship. The text is "'Sgynnoch chi Gymraeg?" which basically means "Got Welsh?" (the literal translation is "Is there Welsh with you?", since there isn't an actual verb "to have" in Welsh).

So, what do you think? Good, or should I try something else? Suggestions more than welcome.

Also, GIP. [livejournal.com profile] tiamatschild made me a lovely teacher icon, which I adore. Thanks, Nanni!

Wouldn't it be something like: "Oes Cymraeg 'da chi?"

Well, as far as I've learned, to ask "Do you have..." is "Oes gynnoch chi...?". That's usually shortened to "'Sgynnoch chi...?". Have you come across another verb to use or another way to say this?

It sounds like what you're using is another way of saying the same thing, literally. I wonder if the "gynnoch" and "gyda" aren't related ... ?

It certainly looks like they might be. I haven't gotten to conjugations yet; the online course gives me situational usages, but not different verb forms yet. I think that's a few lessons ahead.

Does Catchphrase have units on conjugation?

I believe so -- they have everything. Have you gone to the lesson list (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/catchphrase/catchphrase1/all.shtml) yet?

Okay, I have absolutely no knowledge of Welsh *hangs head in shame for being a bad Brit* but visually, the icon looks lovely. The reds and greens blend very well together, and the text is perfect for it - using the wrong font so often brings an icon down. So! Very lovely. I like :)

Oh good! I worried over the font, and had to go download some new ones to find something that looked right. Thank you :)

Regardless of what the final phrase ends up being, I think the 'Got Welsh?' icon looks really kewl.

Thank you! It's called "Patrick". I think I got it from dafont.com. They have a nice selection of Celtic fonts.

Of course. It helped that I ran across a picture of an actual Welsh sailing ship.

In fact, I think I may play around with it so that you can see the ship better...
