Ugh, crappy day. Evil, despicable, horrid, detestable day. Well, maybe not that bad, but still nerve-wracking.

You know, I like my job, I really do. It's challenging, it can be fun, and I'm making a difference, which is cool. It's when they change my schedule and spring things on me that I get knocked off my stride.

Today I was tapped, last minute of course, to watch another 4th grade class while the teacher had a meeting with my boss, the principle, an SS student, and the parents. I was told that my lunch would be a little late today, but not to worry, I wouldn't miss it and it wouldn't be long. I was dumped in the classroom with a brief word on what they were doing, and then left on my own.

Of course, no one told me that it was very close to their lunchtime. No one mentioned that I'd have to take them downstairs to the lunchroom, a ritual to which I'd never been privy. No one mentioned that maybe it would be a good idea to take my lunch with me, so that I could eat mine during the kids' lunch, and not be stuck since my lunchbox was in the resource lab, where the meeting was taking place. I had to interrupt the meeting anyway, to ask what the hell to do about their lunch.

Actually taking them to lunch was an ordeal in itself, as all those lovely "quiet in the hallways" rules go out the window when they have what amounts to a sub. And I stood there watching them eat for at least 20 minutes before one of the lunchroom monitors told me that, yeah, I didn't really have to be in there with them, I could just come get them when they were finished.

Don't get me wrong, I like most of the people I work with, but I just appreciate a little helpful instruction now and again. Sometimes it's nice to be left to work things out on my own, but I like having directions and a schedule, and schedule-less chaos drives me crazy. I don't like feeling at a loss, and I hate having to go sit down my myself and calm down/find my zen before continuing with my day. Plus, I didn't get my lunch until 1:00 (it's usually at 11:30) so I was starving by that point. *sigh* I just don't like feeling used, is all. That's what I've been trying to get away from in all my other jobs. Oh well, I came home and had a nice nap, then went to get fish with mum, with nutty coconut ice cream afterwards. Much better now.

Ok, on to happier topics...

Regarding the Jeeves chat next week, it looks like most people are pointing to Thursday as the best day. Is this ok with everyone? If so, I'll go ahead and make an announcement over at [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir and [livejournal.com profile] wodehouse. We can also fiddle with the time if needs be.

I finished The Bishop's Heir today! It was lovely, if sad and tragic at the end, and I squeed many times over Kelson and Dhugal (now I get the title, hee!), and Thomas and Denis (especially Thomas, who is my new woobie). Now I have to go read [livejournal.com profile] tiamatschild's tag for the book again. I think I may read Deryni Checkmate next. Still don't have a copy of The Mating Season, which gives me the pip, as I am Bertie-less. Woe.

Queer Eye is on. 'Tis a rerun, but still, entertainment ala the Fab 5. Life is better. I shall now go read my friendslist in order to cheer myself up.

Oh yes, big welcomes to [livejournal.com profile] anniesj, [livejournal.com profile] cesario, and [livejournal.com profile] la_reine_blue!

{{{HUGS}}} for that rotten day. I too hate when my schedule is thrown out of whack and you don't know what to do because you don't know what to expect next. It's so very, very frustrating!!

Next Thursday works for me.

Thanks *hugs* I just hate change. I can adapt, I just don't like it :)

Great! I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not big on change, either. It's so much more comfortable to have certainty.

I agree. I like the stability of having a schedule, knowing I can predict certain things. Sucker for routine, and all that :)

Hang in there. I know it's very frustrating to be put in a situation like that.

Thanks, {{{{Kat}}}} Chat tonight really helped to cheer me up. Nothing like having Toots jump up and down on me with combat boots ;)

Lol. True.

HUG, egad and {{{HUG}}} What absolute rubbish they hauled you through. No wonder you were upset. Nothing gives me the pip quite like being used or discarded and they certainly had a field day with you. :/ *more hugs* This is probably somewhat inappropriate but the next time they request you watch a class last-minute like that, you tell them where they can get off with their rotten last-minute notices. Not wise, I suppose, but vindication always reigns supreme. Sigh, well, at least in future if you're confronted with something similar you'll know the drill. Those little monstrous kids though, giving you hard time in the hallway...I remember when kids used to do that when I was, er, a kid; I always felt so bad for the substitutes. Demonic fiends--the children, I mean.

*Wills a bit of Bertie your way because it's uncool that he's left you in the lurch.*

And, of course, expectant *yays* for next week's chat.

Thanks, dearest. You all have made me feel a lot better :)

I'd dearly love to tell them where to get off next time, but alas, I fear it will never happen. There are times when I can be the type of employee that does such things, but most other times I just do the job and deal. Ah well, as you say, now I have the info and experience for next time.

Ooh, thank you. I'm sure old Wooster will rally round :)

Grrr to teachers who don't give their subs (however temporary) all the necessary information! Grrr! And {{{{ hugs }}}} to you, pobrecita. Good thing this job is something you enjoy, since it sounds very stressful. I hope the rest of the week goes better.

*hugs* Thanks, I'm feeling much better now :) The nerves have settled, at least. And yes, usually I like the job, so it's cool.

I had to look up "pobrecita". Cute :)

Btw, how goes the job situation on your end?

Heh, oops! Well, glad you didn't mind. I picked that up from my college roommate, who called me that all the time (despite the fact that she came up to my chin- just who was the littler one there?), and it seems to have become a permanent (and somewhat random) addition to my everyday vocabulary. That and "pelirroja," which, come to think of it, also fits you, my redheaded compadre. ;)

Btw, how goes the job situation on your end?

Is there a way to "Grrrrarghblarghecharrrghewwgrrrrr" in English?

Nah, don't mind in the least. In fact, I may use that one on one of my little Spanish students in reading group :) Ooh, and "pelirroja" is really cool! How do you pronounce it?

Is there a way to "Grrrrarghblarghecharrrghewwgrrrrr" in English?

Probably. I'm hearing it now, and it's rather amusing *g* I'm sorry the job thing is provoking this sort of reaction, though. Bummer.

Well, and bearing in mind that I have no idea how to type pronunciations, it's something like peh-lee-ro-hah, with the accent (which is very slight) on the first syllable and a slight roll to the r. It's really just "pelo" (hair) smooshed with "roja" (red, with a feminine ending). Fun little word, really. ;)

Ok, thanks! That sounds right to me, although my Spanish is limited to a class waaaay back in 5th grade :) "Pelliroja" sounds so much cooler than calling each other "Red".

Ok, and I can't spell tonight. Pelirroja, even.
