Look! All J&W fans go take a look at what [livejournal.com profile] cimmerianwillow drew for me! My own Bertie and Jeeves, to be matted, framed, and hung on my wall :) Isn't she amazing?

Life is good, much better than yesterday.

Got my application for substitute teaching turned in, and tomorrow I'll be calling to set up an appointment for fingerprinting and a background check (mandatory now, evidently).

Went to McKay's Used Books to look for Wodehouse, to no avail. I did leave with a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories with original Strand Magazine illustrations, and two Terry Pratchett hardbacks - Guards, Guards! and Wyrd Sisters. They had a ton of the Pratchett hardbacks for $5, but I can't afford to get all of them at once. Maybe next time.

Had a great time in the Chatterley's chat tonight, even though Toots kept hitting me on the head with a frying pan, and she and [livejournal.com profile] krzykat sat on me. Brats :P

I'm about halfway through Moab is my Washpot. It's a fascinating book and I'm enjoying it so much. I hope one day Stephen will write another novel about the next 20 years of his life.

Thanks to all of you for cheering me up yesterday. You're the best!

What a marvelous drawing! Tell [livejournal.com profile] cimmerianwillow that she did a fantastic job.

Yay for getting the application in!

Stephen totally needs to write another book. I got to the back and thought..."bbbbbb..but..you can't end there!" And he teases us with a picture of Hugh and him playing chess. Come on, tell us what it was like making all those films and series!

I certainly will! She really draws amazing people, so I always love getting pictures from her. She did a portrait of me for my mother and it turned out beautifully.

I'm a little nervous about the teaching thing, but looking forward to it.

Yes, I know! There's that lovely little picture, and he stops just as he gets to Cambridge. It would be so cool to read about those years, when he met all his lifelong friends and his years of comedy and acting.

[livejournal.com profile] cimmerianwillow is an amazing artist. The shading... the eyes... even the parts in their hair look fantastic. Spectacular job, man.

Wow! That is a very impressive drawing. Speechless indeed. Wow!

Yay for the teaching application and future appointments. *crosses fingers*

Isn't that a wrench when there are reasonably priced books, but there are too many and you just know to buy them all despite the price, will add up to something very hefty? I winced reading this, feeling the pain of it. ;) Re Pratchett though, I picked up The Color of Magic yesterday--is that the 1st Discworld? there wasn't a list in the book, but it seemed to be--and look forward to reading it during the Jeeveless time looming ahead. :)

Sigh, with the combination of you and [livejournal.com profile] sensefille talking about Moab is my Washpot, I feel so tempted to drop everything else...but strength, resilience...must try. I did thumb through it in the library not long ago and it looked fascinating--also, squee over the chess photo.

This picture is getting a place of honor on my wall. I love it so much. Having creative friends is a wonderful thing :)

It is indeed a wrench, b/c while rationally I can tell myself buying them all now would be cheaper in the long run, I really need to keep to my budget until I've got a steady paycheck again. Yay for you, though, purchasing The Colour of Magic! That is indeed the first book in the Discworld series, and I look forward to hearing your take on it. I think you'll really like the universe he's created :)

I just love that pic of them playing chess together. It was such a tease, considering he stopped writing when he got to his arrival at Cambridge. I'm sure you'll pick it up sometime, though. We're all such incorrigable influences on each other's reading ;)

It's a terrible argument and never gets easier no matter how many times you go through it: buy the book, don't buy the book...what is there to do? Usually the struggle ends for the better if you buy the book. Restraint is a good thing though and I admire you for it. I'm afraid I didn't buy The Color of Magic, but I did take it out of the library and started reading it on the subway. I didn't get far, but I liked what I'd read and look forward to seeing what direction the story takes. :) For the nonce it has to be put on hold because there is Jeeves to read, but I specifically took it out with post-Jeeves misery in mind, so I believe it will fit the bill accordingly. :)

That picture was a terrible tease. When I was rifling through the photos, I kind of whispered, "there aren't any more of both of them? what gives?" but *cough*after reading the ending*exuent cough* I realized the book ended before Hugh came along. Still, it looks a wonderfully cool read and when the Jeeves angst hits its climax, I know it will make me feel better.

I'm afraid the restraint didn't last long, as I bought that copy of The Most of PG Wodehouse yesterday. Willpower? What willpower?

You read the end already? For shame :) The good thing is that he does mention Hugh quite a few times throughout the book. Plus, I just finished reading a lovely passage on his love for Wodehouse and Jeeves stories, which made me smile.

Is that the one with the Drones Club stories--Freddie Widgeon and what not?

I know…wretched to the last, I am. I figured since it wasn’t fiction, there wasn’t any harm in reading the ending, but it was still a jerky thing to do. H’m…interested in the Hugh and Wodehouse refs…h’m…oh, but dash it, not till I’ve made a dent in the list--damnable siren songs.

There are some Drones stories, as well as Mr. Mulliner, Ukridge, Golf stories, one Emsworth story, and the Quick Service novel. It's a big book :)

Heh. If you can be a bad influence re fanfiction, I can pimp books mercilessly ;)

Ah! I've taken that one of the library--didn't get very far with it save some Drones stories due to, well...you know, Jeeves books and all--and it looked very nifty. :)

We're all such frightful enablers. I don't know whether to be thankful or terrified. ;)

Yeah, I know how it is :) I probably won't look at this book for a while, b/c I've already read the Jeeves stories it has.

Maybe a bit of both ;)

Ah, but that's the nice thing about your purchase: the book will always be there, ready for you when the time is right.
