I've come to adore Sundays. Something fun is usually happening on Sundays. Tonight was our annual ice cream social at St. Luke's (the Episcopal Church I attend), and this year, instead of doing compline beforehand, we had a small concert to help raise money for a cancer charity we've been collecting for this summer.

We started the concert in the church, since we needed the organ. Doug, a fellow member of our choir, played 3 movements from Mendelsohnn's Sonata No. 3, then accompanied me on The Lord's Prayer. Dean, our organist/choirmaster, concluded with two hymns. Then we migrated to the parish hall for homemade ice cream (including coconut, pina colada frozen yogurt, mint chocolate chip, and of course, chocolate and vanilla) and cookies. Margaret Ann Randolph played the piano (she's really excellent), then Doug accompanied me again while I sang "Kathleen Mavourneen", an old Irish song that was quite popular during the Civil War. Margaret Ann and her husband Sheridan played some piano/sax duets which were a lot of fun, then she and Doug alternated with piano solos the rest of the time. The entire evening was a lot of fun and I'm hoping we can do it again more often.

I was nervous as usual, but I'm feeling really good about my performances. I was in good voice, managed to hit the F clearly on The Lord's Prayer, and remembered where to breathe on "Kathleen Mavourneen." Singing at St. Luke's for the last three years has been quite a boost to my ego, as everyone is always so generous with their thanks and compliments. It's so nice to feel appreciated, something I never felt at my parents' church.

You know, I'm not much of an ice cream person, but I may have to talk mum into making the pina colada frozen yogurt. Yum.

I'm very much looking forward to Monday night's chat about Thank You, Jeeves. I think we've moved it to 10:30 EST, and anyone who's read the book is welcome to join. We'll be using AIM, I believe, and final details will be posted over at [livejournal.com profile] indeedsir.
