3D Realms and Apogee shut down

News article here

Damn it. I have to admit, even with the 12 year ongoing "maybe soon!" messages, I was still hoping for the Duke Nukem Forever release. As well as an updated release of the Commander Keen saga. I LOVED that game when it came out, and have played it again recently since I discovered the DOSBox x86 emulator. This is seriously terrific freeware; you can play all manner of old DOS games on it (I've been able to find the Sherlock logic game I love so much, all the Commander Keen series, Duke Nukem, Thor's Hammer, Mystic Tower, Scorched Earth, Hocus Pocus, and a host of other fun stuff), and companies are even re-releasing some of the older titles that weren't available otherwise. Everything takes up ludicrously small amounts of file space, so you can store tons of games without cluttering up your hard drive. There's even a portable ap version of DOSBox, so I can take games with me (not that I'd play at work, oh no...)

Still, bummed about the news that Apogee has been shut down again. They only recently were resurrected again and I was hoping we'd get another in the Keen series. They never did finish the story that Keen 5 left hanging, b/c 6 was a completely different story and the Dreams thing was a stand-alone, too. Argh. Where else am I going to play a platform game where the hero uses a pogo stick, huh?
