castalia: (Merlin - Morgana)
Amazing new Merlin vid from [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24 focusing on Morgana: Blinding

Seriously amazing. What a brilliant showcase of Morgana's arc throughout the show, with better storytelling than the show itself. This one hurts.

Festivids is probably my favorite gift exchange of the year, so today has been an awesome day. I haven't watched everything (master list is here!), but here are the ones I've enjoyed the most so far.

High Treason (Brisco County, Jr) - Focuses on the two-part finale. Very cute.

Turn to Stone (The Bletchley Circle) - I was hoping someone would make a Bletchley vid. They did, and it is awesome. More people should watch this show.

Just a Girl (Hogfather) - Because Susan kicks ass.

Glad You Came (Downton Abbey) - Although this song will always say "Avengers" to me now, it worked really well for DA as well. Surprisingly joyful and feel-good considering all the awful things that tend to happen in the show, which is a nice change. Dancing!Drunk!Molesley will never not be hilarious.

Nothing Left to Say (Falling Skies) - Awesome vid I was not expecting, damn. It almost makes me want to go back and catch up on this show, as frustrating as it was.

Devils (Gormenghast) - Someone did a Gormenghast vid and I am thrilled. Beautiful and epic and tragic and everything the series and miniseries are.

If I Was A Great White Shark (Jaws series) - HAHAHAHA. This was cute. I appreciated the message at the end, too.

Seven Devils (Kings) - Same song as the above Gormenghast vid, which usually throws me, but it's just as epic and awesome. Still makes me ache that this show was canceled so soon.

And we got three League of Their Own vids!!

1) Back to Avalon
2) Revolution
3) Va Va Voom - This one is my favorite. I just love how it focuses on the baseball skills of all the women, their camaraderie, their strength, etc. So joyful.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are (Still Alive) (R&GAD) - I had some trouble with the song (mostly the singing voice), but overall liked the vid itself.

Toy Sack (Toys) - Okay, I did find the song itself a bit distracting, and I was sad there wasn't much Patrick or Gwen, but dude, a Toys vid! So cool.

So jealous of VividCon goers right now, seriously. But I love that modern technology allows the vids to go up the same weekend they're premiering these days, as well, which means I already have shiny vids to watch. Just starting to dip my toes in that pool now, but so far these two vids have blown my socks off:

Starships by [livejournal.com profile] bironic - Multifandom. Spaceships. Awesomeness. Much squealing and grinning on my part while watching.

Ride to California by [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu - Avengers/Thor/Captain America/Iron Man movies. Just, wow.

This is my favorite fandom exchange in the world. So much happy-making and a bright spot in winter.

Master list here!

I've watched all afternoon and here are my recs so far: cut for length )

With over 150 vids, I think I'm going to be busy all weekend. \o/
castalia: (DW - Donna Stolen Earth by nishime)
Sometimes I'm a bad online vid watcher b/c I tend to skip over vids by vidders I'm not familiar with. But this one grabbed me because how could I resist a Donna Noble vid set to a song by The Decemberists? I'm glad I checked it out.

Red Right Ankle by [livejournal.com profile] suchaprince

Red Right Ankle is one of my favorite Decemberists songs, so simple yet with beautiful analogies and some truly gorgeous chords. It really works with Donna's story quite well, with its swing between poignant and happy and back to sad again. It's quiet yet powerful for me, and makes me miss Donna all over again.

Why no, I'm not posting a lot today at all...

If you enjoyed the new Star Trek movie, you totally have to watch this Lord King Bad Vid by [livejournal.com profile] arefadedaway - Don't Stop Believing!

I can't resist the combination of shiny new movie with shiny new cover of cheesy 80s pop. It results in :D faces.

I can tell I'm going to need icons. And fic. Oh dear, I'm going to need fic.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

*bounces* Yay, I can finally rec this! [livejournal.com profile] cimmerianwillow has been toiling tirelessly on a Lawrence of Arabia music vid, and after a brief battle with uploading methods, she's finally posted it.

I really must insist you go watch this.

As usual, she's proven her talent with anything artistic. It's a beautiful vid, with some sections that really take my breath away. Good sense of rhythm and movement and beats and even if you're not familiar with the movie you get a good sense of the narrative that's taking place.

Go watch!

I can't believe I didn't rec this before, but for those of you who haven't seen [livejournal.com profile] just_eunice's new Dogma vid, go here to download it.

[livejournal.com profile] cimmerianwillow, I thought you might especially like this, b/c this may be the same song you love so much. Do the lyrics on your LJ come from this song?

Anyway, yes. Movement and humor and awesome beat-whoring, not to mention some rather touching bits as well. I dare you not to tap your foot to this one.

While I'm reccing vids, check out [livejournal.com profile] birgitm's latest Farscape vid, Wonderboy. John and Scorpy and Tenacious D. No, really.

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. I had fish and chips rather than turkey, and spent most of the day working on the Shell Island report, but all in all it was a good day. The holiday was also topped off by snow. Actual snow. In November. Definitely new for me, but lovely. It's mostly gone now, but the mountains are still all white and beautiful. Will post pics of that soon. Also on a good note, the papers from the bank came in the mail, so I should be able to have the loan thing wrapped up on Monday. Whee!

One last bit of squee - OMGWILDWILDWESTISCOMINGTODVD!!!. Ahem. That is all.
castalia: (Due South by wynterhawk)
Well, it's 12:20am and I just finished my oceanography report that's due in tomorrow. We also start the Shell Island survey this week, and of course there's the fisheries report due next Monday. I swear, they're trying to kill us.

However, [livejournal.com profile] sisabet made my evening. She's posted her first Due South vid, and like most of her vids, it totally blew me away. Go. Watch.
