Lookit my cuttle, isn't he cute omg?!

I did not take this picture, but the school photographer at SOS did. Thank you, Dave Roberts. I use this picture in all of my presentations, b/c omg, cute!

I lost two of my cuttles today. Two out of the 15 I'm keeping at high temps with maximum food. I'm not even sure what killed them, as they looked fine and dandy yesterday. Now I'm down to 13 and some of those aren't looking so hot today either.

I'm starting to wonder whether these animals can eat too much. I know you can overfeed aquarium fish, but as the adult cuttles we have seem to be choosy and if they're not hungry they won't go for food, I assumed the juveniles would be the same. But when I dissected the two dead ones, their stomachs were very swollen and much more prominent in the mantle cavity than they should've been. I'm going to lower the rations on the others, just to see, but damn, I hate losing animals.

Data for cuttlebone experiment is starting to look promising, but I still need more replicates. Sexing the juveniles is still nigh on impossible and I haven't had any luck seeing the developing gonads some of my sources tell me are there.

I can't believe it's almost the end of July. Where is my summer going? I still have so much to do and so much outside of work that I want to do and I have no time for any of it.

*flails a bit and worries about the other 13*

Pics of the new do beneath the cut. Not too much change this time from the last pic I posted, except for the sides. This is first time I've had it cut around the ears. It feels so odd not having hair to tuck behind my ears; nice, though, b/c it doesn't bother me like it always did.

Don't mock me 'cause I'm ginger )

It's a Friday night and by all rights I should be out doing something fun but a week of video conferences about Coastal Zone Law and lectures on economics has all but killed me. As my classmates would say, I'm completely knackered. Rest sounds infinitely more appealing than Raccubah (I hate clubs anyway). I've got to walk over to Menai Bridge tomorrow anyway to feed the cuttlefish, so I need the sleep. Some of them are getting bigger now (about 4 inches mantle length) and are hungry little bastards. Aggressive, too; the ones in tank B keep squirting water at me through their siphons. They're lucky they're so cute.
